As we prepare for our imminent reopening, we are seeking a Switchboard Operator to join our Front Office Team.
Role Description As Switchboard Operator, you will be the voice of San Clemente Palace Venice and a vital link between guests and hotel operations. This guest-facing role is essential in ensuring flawless internal and external communication, reflecting the resort’s five-star standards through every interaction.
You will manage all incoming and outgoing calls with efficiency, discretion, and warmth, ensuring that guests and colleagues receive prompt, accurate, and professional assistance at all times.
Your main responsibilities will include:
Answering all internal and external calls promptly and courteously, typically within three rings
Screening, directing, and transferring calls accurately to guest rooms, departments, or personnel
Handling guest requests via phone, including wake-up calls, messaging, and maintenance requests, and logging them into the appropriate systems
Providing accurate information regarding hotel services, operating hours, and resort events
Acting as a central communication point during emergencies, strictly following established hotel procedures
Managing and executing wake-up calls with precision and personalization
Taking clear and accurate messages for guests and staff and ensuring timely delivery through approved channels
Maintaining an up-to-date internal directory of staff extensions, guest names, and room numbers
Monitoring hotel alarms and emergency lines and responding immediately in accordance with SOPs
Maintaining strict confidentiality of guest information and sensitive operational details
Liaising closely with Front Desk, Housekeeping, Engineering, Security, and other departments to ensure seamless communication
Additional responsibilities and tasks can be added at any time according to the needs of the business and of the hotel
What We’re Looking For
Minimum 1 year of experience operating a multi-line switchboard or telephone system, preferably in a luxury hotel or high-volume environment
Flawless verbal communication in Italian and English; additional languages are a strong advantage
A clear, articulate, and professional speaking style with excellent active listening skills
Familiarity with PBX systems and basic knowledge of hotel PMS platforms
Ability to handle multiple calls efficiently while maintaining accuracy and composure
Strong sense of discretion, confidentiality, and professionalismReliable, punctual, and comfortable working within a 24/7 operation
