We are looking for a Communication System Engineer
Permanent position:
Contribute to activities within programs and studies undertaken by the “uW Payloads, Data Handling and Communication Engineering” Unit as a Communication System Engineer.
Responsibilities:
1. Support the definition of uW Instruments and communication subsystem functional and performance requirements during design phases, including analysis and assessment related to uW Instruments (P/L), communication systems (e.g., Radiometers, P/L data handling and transmission systems, radar systems).
2. Develop and maintain models and software tools for simulating P/L or S/S functionalities and performances.
3. Define, implement, and maintain RF budgets and link budgets as applicable.
4. Define related command and control interfaces and architecture for payloads and subsystems.
5. Support technical monitoring and review attendance with internal and external suppliers.
6. Assess and evaluate payload and subsystem functionalities and performances based on test results during verification and validation phases.
7. Support relevant AIT campaigns as a System and Verification Engineer.
8. Participate in meetings and reviews with internal and external customers.
9. Prepare documentation, presentations, and contribute to program reports and minutes.
10. Ensure compliance with Italian Defense National Authority Rules, including security clearance requirements.
Required Background:
1. Master’s degree in Electronic or Telecommunication Engineering.
2. Experience in communication systems, especially space applications.
3. Knowledge of digital and RF electronics, data handling, processing, and wide-band communication, TT&C.
4. Familiarity with onboard data interfaces such as MIL 1553 B, CAN, SpaceWire, and High-Speed Serial Links.
5. Understanding of radio communication protocols, information theory, advanced coding/modulation techniques, and modeling/simulation of related impairments and atmospheric effects.
6. Experience with CCSDS protocols, data compression algorithms, Matlab, programming languages (e.g., C, Visual Basic), and MS Office.
7. Proficiency in English (written and verbal).
8. Ability to work effectively in a team.
9. Eligibility for security clearance under Italian Defense National Authority Rules.
