Job Description
Directs, plans, organizes, and evaluates infection prevention and control activities in a tertiary hospital setting.
Job Responsibilities
* Leads an Infection Prevention team by communicating effectively, developing staff, and building consensus for programs and goals aligned with organizational objectives.
* Develops and communicates a short-term strategic vision for infection prevention areas.
* Implements and oversees hospital infection prevention goals, policies, and procedures, ensuring compliance with standards; manages department budget, salaries, and resources.
* Conducts infection surveillance and risk assessments according to guidelines; addresses infection risks to patients, staff, and the community.
* Investigates epidemiologically significant infections, clusters, and exposures to identify sources and implement risk reduction strategies.
* Reports operational performance, justifications, and corrective actions to hospital leadership and regulatory agencies.
* Oversees infection prevention training programs covering standards of care, sterilization, disinfection, hand hygiene, and equipment management.
* Manages staffing schedules, ensures regulatory compliance, and participates in external reviews for accreditation.
* Builds collaborative relationships within and across departments to optimize patient care and compliance.
* Partners with Human Resources to improve vaccination rates and exposure interventions; maintains accurate records.
* Performs other related duties as required, considering all essential functions under the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Job Qualifications
* Bachelor’s Degree in Microbiology, Medical Technology, Public Health, Nursing, or related field required.
* Current RN license in New York State preferred.
* Certification by the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology (CBIC) required, with specialized certifications as needed.
* 8-12 years of relevant experience required.
* 7+ years of leadership/management experience required.
Additional Compensation
Possible $10,000 sign-on bonus for eligible candidates.
