The project “Roles of the RIOK1-PRMT5-MEP50-CENP-F axis in health, disease, and therapy” (REFRESH), funded under the Research Südtirol/Alto Adige 2024 call with CUP D53C25003920003, supports the recruitment of a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute for Biomedicine of Eurac Research. The position is embedded in the Biostatistics & Epidemiology Group and aims to strengthen the group’s capacity to perform causal inference analyses on high-dimensional molecular data. The project seeks to clarify the role of the RIOK1-PRMT5-MEP50-CENP-F gene axis in health, disease, and therapy by integrating transcriptomic, proteomic, and clinical data from population studies and biobanks.
This role involves analyzing large multiomics datasets using methods such as multivariable Mendelian randomization or similar causal inference techniques, and related statistical frameworks, to elucidate relevant causal pathways and networks. A strong background in statistical modeling and high-dimensional data analysis is therefore essential. The appointee should push the boundaries of existing statistical methods to prioritize robust target mechanisms for validation through functional experiments by international collaborators.
The Biostatistics and Epidemiology Group is a vibrant, collaborative community of senior and junior researchers with extensive expertise in statistical methods for genetic epidemiology, causal inference, machine learning, experimental and observational study design, and advanced multidimensional data analysis (https://www.eurac.edu/en/institutes-centers/institute-for-biomedicine/pages/biostatistics-epidemiology). The group leads national and international research programs and works in close synergy with the Computational Genomics and Biomedical Informatics groups within the Institute’s Health Data Science Department.
Responsibilities and Expectations:
- Developing analysis plans that may enable identification of causal molecular pathways using advanced Mendelian randomization techniques or advanced methods for causal analysis.
- Ability to access and explore omics datasets (transcriptomics, proteomics, …) with standard and advanced tools.
- Potential to develop or extend existing statistical and causal inference methodologies to address biologically motivated questions.
- Collaborating with national and international project partners.
- Disseminating scientific results at conferences and through scientific publications.
- Contributing to the ordinary operations and management of the Epidemiology & Biostatistics group.
Requirements:
- PhD in Statistics, Biostatistics, Genetic Epidemiology, Bioinformatics or strictly related Health Data Science disciplines.
- Experience with Mendelian randomization or related causal inference methods.
- Experience in handling and conducting statistical analyses of large-scale -omics data.
- Experience with R and/or Python, and familiarity with the Linux environment.
- Experience in accessing large biobank data (e.g.: GTEx).
- Ability to think independently, proactively, and with a problem-solving attitude.
- Ability to work in international teams.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
We offer:
- A full-time fixed-term contract for 33 months, with an expected start in January 2027 or earlier, upon agreement between the parties.
- Gross annual salary ranging from € 44.247,32 to € 46.566,16
- Workplace location: Eurac Research NOI Techpark, Via A. Volta, 39100 Bolzano, Italy.
- An international working environment in a Great Place to Work©.
- Benefits and work-life balance: Eurac Research offers a welfare package designed to support employees’ well-being and work-life balance, contributing to a positive and inclusive working experience in an international research environment. The full and regularly updated list of benefits is available here.
- Training and professional development opportunities.
Employment conditions:
- Employment classification and applicable collective agreement: II level of the Italian National Collective Labour Agreement for the Tertiary/Commerce Sector.
- Gross Annual Salary range: the gross annual salary range is primarily linked to the advertised position, its requirements and expected level, and is defined according to Eurac Research’s internal remuneration framework. The candidate’s highest academic degree and any relevant professional experience documented in the CV are taken into account where applicable, but always within the salary range defined for the advertised position. The range also reflects whether the position is full-time or part-time.
