HSSE Manager – Major Energy Projects, Milan, Italy
A leading international project delivery organisation is seeking an experienced HSSE Manager to support large-scale engineering and construction programmes within the energy sector.
This is a senior leadership role responsible for driving health, safety, security and environmental performance across complex capital projects. The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring operational excellence, regulatory compliance and a strong safety culture across all project phases.
The Role
Reporting to senior project leadership, the HSSE Manager will develop and oversee the implementation of project-wide HSE management systems, ensuring alignment with international standards and client requirements.
You will work closely with multidisciplinary project teams, contractors and stakeholders to ensure safe execution throughout engineering, procurement, construction, installation and commissioning phases.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop and implement project HSE plans aligned with recognised international standards
* Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, company policies and client HSE frameworks
* Lead hazard identification, risk assessments and safety studies across project activities
* Oversee Permit to Work systems and safety procedures for high-risk activities
* Manage incident investigations and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence
* Conduct regular HSE inspections, audits and performance monitoring across project sites
* Track key safety performance indicators and drive continuous improvement initiatives
* Deliver HSE training, inductions and safety awareness programmes for project personnel
* Promote a proactive, safety-first culture across all project teams and contractors
* Ensure environmental protection measures including waste management, emissions control and spill prevention
Requirements
* Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline
* Minimum 15 years’ experience in HSE management within major engineering or energy projects
* Strong knowledge of international HSE standards and best practices
* Proven experience managing HSE across complex construction or EPC project environments
* Strong leadership, communication and stakeholder management capabilities
* Experience working in multi-disciplinary and multicultural project teams
