The Red Hat OpenShift Storage team is looking for a Principal Software Engineer with a focus on quality and automation to join us in the following countries: Czech Republic, Portugal, Italy, Poland as remote or onsite in our offices. The OpenShift Storage team is responsible for the development and maintenance of the internal OpenShift and Kubernetes storage APIs, built-in volume plugins, CSI drivers, and all the CSI sidecars shipped in the core OpenShift payloads.
In this role, you will apply your software engineering skills to build automation tools and frameworks that ensure the quality of these core storage components. You will work closely with other developers to interpret test requirements and develop automated solutions for testing real-world customer workflows in hybrid cloud environments.
What you will do
1. Design, develop and maintain automation frameworks for OpenShift Storage testing
2. Develop automated test suites for CSI drivers, CSI sidecar and related OLM operators
3. Participate in the test planning and product planning processes
4. Participate in the design sessions side by side with developers and product managers to scope and prioritize new features
5. Conduct new feature research and design test cases
6. Execute manual and automated tests for OpenShift and deliver clear status in a timely manner.
7. Explore, identify and document new bugs. Advocate for the resolution of bugs and communicate the impact on customers to developers and support
8. Contribute to upstream open source projects.
9. Provide coaching, mentoring and leadership to junior Quality Engineers
What you will bring
10. Extensive professional experience working in software engineering or QE.
11. Programming skills in Golang; familiarity with Python or Shell is a plus
12. Expertise in designing, developing, and maintaining test environments and automated test suites
13. Deep understanding of Kubernetes storage architecture (PV, PVC, StorageClass, CSI spec).
14. Familiarity with Linux containers and container orchestration tools like OpenShift and Kubernetes
15. Solid knowledge of the Linux operating system (storage subsystems, block devices, filesystems) and networking.
16. Experience with major public cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) or virtualization environments.
17. Experience with continuous integration (CI) tools like Jenkins or Prow.
18. Solid written and verbal communication skills in English.
The following are considered a plus:
19. Direct experience with developing or testing Kubernetes CSI drivers.
20. Contributions to open source projects or publicly available code samples.
21. Knowledge of security testing.
