We are seeking a skilled and motivated Software Engineer to support the maintenance and optimization of automation systems within our automotive manufacturing plant. This role will play a key part in maintaining high levels of equipment uptime, supporting continuous improvement, and ensuring effective software solutions for industrial automation. The position reports directly to the Maintenance Manager based in Italy and requires close coordination with local and international teams.
Key Responsibilities:
* Develop, modify, and maintain software for PLCs, SCADA, HMIs, and other plant automation systems.
* Diagnose and resolve software-related issues in production equipment to minimize downtime.
* Collaborate with Maintenance and Production teams to analyze failures and implement preventive solutions.
* Interface with the central Maintenance team in Italy for software standards, updates, and reporting.
* Document all changes to code and systems, ensuring version control and traceability.
* Participate in the installation and commissioning of new equipment, ensuring software integration meets operational needs.
* Support data collection systems (e.g., OEE, MES) and provide technical input to improve plant efficiency.
* Provide training and technical support to maintenance technicians on software-related topics.
* Ensure all activities comply with health, safety, and environmental standards.
Requirements:
Education & Experience:
* Minimum high school degree
* 2–5 years of experience in industrial automation or software engineering, preferably in the automotive sector.
Technical Skills:
* Proficient in PLC programming (Siemens, Proficy machine edition, etc.).
* Experience with SCADA/HMI development (e.g., WinCC, Wonderware).
* Experience with Robot (e.g., Fanuc, Kuka etc).
* Familiar with industrial communication protocols (Profinet, Ethernet/IP, ProfiBus, Modbus, etc.).
* Understanding of manufacturing processes and equipment (robotics, conveyors, etc.).
* Knowledge of CMMS and maintenance data analysis tools is a plus.
Soft Skills:
* Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting ability.
* Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
* Ability to work under pressure and respond quickly to issues.
* Comfortable working in a multicultural and cross-functional environment.
* Fluent in English;
Working Conditions:
* Plant-based role with hands-on responsibilities.
* May require occasional travel to Italy or other company locations.
* Willingness to work flexible hours if needed to support production.
