1. Reports to: Engineer Manager
2. Job purpose: Antenna & passive RF/microwave design
3. Location: MetaSensing, Via Aniene 2, 20151, Milan, Italy
4. Employment condition: Full-time, 40 hours per week.
5. Candidate must be eligible to work in the EU.
Job Duties
You will turn system requirements into validated RF hardware by combining a solid foundation in modern antenna theory and microwave engineering with hands-on skills in simulation, layout/prototyping, and lab characterization. We value engineers who can interpret system metrics (gain, sensitivity, dynamic range, nonlinearity, spurious/harmonics) and drive iterative improvement through tight design–build–test loops.
Key Responsibilities and Tasks
* Antenna & passive RF/microwave design (microstrip/patch antennas, slots, horns/reflectors, antenna arrays, power dividers/combiners, couplers, transitions across microstrip/stripline/coax/waveguide domains)
* Build 3D EM models and perform optimization in CST Studio Suite (preferred): boundary conditions, meshing strategy, ports, parameter sweeps, near-to-far transformations.
* Contribute to RF PCB implementation and review: stackups, controlled impedance routing, grounding, transitions, via strategies. Coordinate with manufacturing/assembly partners to ensure DFM/DFT readiness and repeatable builds
* Characterize and manage linearity metrics: IP2/IP3, P1dB, gain compression, intermodulation products, spurious and harmonic content, NF. Support selection/integration and validation of RF front-end components and modules (LNA/driver/PA/mixer/LO chain)
* Measurement and verification with VNA, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, and power meters to measure harmonics, two-tone IP2/IP3, P1dB / gain compression, spurious, intermodulation products and NF. Support antenna pattern/gain/polarization validation (anechoic chamber or equivalent)
* Contribute to waveguide components and interfaces design: transitions, flanges/connectors, couplers, and waveguide-based filtering concepts. Resonator-based structures: cavity/coaxial resonators, high-Q approaches, tolerance/temperature impacts
Required skills and qualifications
6. Strong fundamentals in:
7. Antenna metrics (directivity, gain, efficiency, bandwidth, polarization, cross-pol)
8. Arrays (array factor, grating lobes, sidelobe management, tapering)
9. Transmission lines, matching networks, and S-parameters
10. Practical lab skills and measurement discipline;
ability to troubleshootdiscrepancies and close the loop between simulation and hardware
11. Proficiency with CST Studio Suite (preferred);
working knowledge of ADS/AWR and PCB tools (Altium/KiCad/OrCAD) is a plus
12. Preferably 3+ years in advanced technology, defense, radar, communications, or RF product development
Communication Strong communication skills required, including the ability to clearly express technical concepts in verbal and written forms across different management levels.
* Ability to work in team. Taste for international contacts. Manifest the flexibility needed to be integrated in the different stages of a project.
Education level
* BSc is the baseline requirement
* MSc/PhD is a strong plus—especially in antennas, electromagnetics, RF/microwave engineering, waveguides/resonators, radar/communications, or related domains
* Good knowledge of the English language for the working environment
