JOB DUTIES:
Key elements of the business analysis role are the supporting the establishment of target costs, cost monitoring, new product introduction analysis, value chain analysis, investment analysis. In all aspects of business analysis, both an enterprise and accountable perspective is utilized. Results are used to guide unit’s corporate decision-making as reviewed by unit’s leadership team.
Supports the forecasting/planning process for the unit annual business plan, quarterly rolling business management in terms of variable efficiency, period cost control, inventory and capex forecast, and considering volume flexibility and strategical changes.
Guides the unit operational reporting for all key operational elements (Variable and period costs, capex and inventory).
Guides the inventory valuation in conformance with US and Local GAAP, corporate guidelines.
Supports compliance alignment and proper control documentations for Capex and Inventory.
Guides digital development and transformation and continues improvements for all processes.
Reporting to the Business Resource Manager.
Primary responsibilities of the Accounting Supervisor II are divided into three areas:
Managing People
- Works with selected financial systems, interpreting and adhering to Caterpillar’s general accounting practices and procedures, and supervises salaried and management personnel who perform accounting functions of varying complexity.
- Manages a small team and their related workload, prioritizes projects, assigns and reviews work, and controls the daily operating environment.
- Evaluates and reports on staff performance, participates in employee selection, provides career guidance and training direction, complies with personnel practices, and promotes team rewards and successes.
- Provides technical guidance and expertise to current team.
- Motivates team members to work towards individual and team goals and objectives and fosters an environment of teamwork and cooperation.
Managing Expectations
- Communicates effectively within the team and with internal and external customers and data providers.
- Understands and manages customer requirements and expectations.
- Serves as liaison between customer, team and data providers.
- Identifies and communicates goals and objectives of team.
- Provides services, makes recommendations and manages costs.
Performing Complex Staff Work
- Provides technical guidance and expertise on highly complex accounting issues such as preparing financial results analysis for upper level management, providing forecast data, etc.
- Leads initiatives outside team to represent the group (e.g. documenting processes, making presentations).
- Demonstrates a comprehensive knowledge of Caterpillar’s businesses, products, suppliers and customers.
BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE: In the U.S., position requires a 4-year degree, preferably in accounting. Non-accounting degree requires minimum of 18 hours of college level accounting or approved Accounting certification. Outside the U.S., international equivalent of education and/or certification are typically required. All approved certifications can be found on Finance Services Division Accounting Certification website. Must have proven record of process and accomplishments at lower levels. Must demonstrate initiative, leadership, good judgment and superior communication skills. Strong analytical, problem solving and human relations skills also are necessary. 5-7 years of accounting experience is recommended.
