Overview Biotechnology : Contract Instructor-College Credit. San Diego Miramar College is piloting anonymous screening format as a means to minimize implicit bias in the screening of applications. By anonymizing applications, screening committees seek a more inclusive and diverse hiring process. Responsibilities Teach Biotechnology lecture and lab courses to the standards of the department and college. Participate in biology department meetings and committees as needed. Assist with curriculum revision and course / program assessments. Work collaboratively with college staff and industry professionals. Maintain office hours and mentor / advise students. Mentorship of students, networking with industry, and professional development. Create and maintain collegial relationships with various college stakeholders. Connect and create opportunities for students in career pathways. Fulfill the responsibilities of a community college instructor in accordance with district policies and the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in any biological sciences and two (2) years of full-time professional experience directly related to the faculty member’s teaching assignment; OR Associate’s degree in any biological sciences and six (6) years of full-time professional experience directly related to the faculty member’s teaching assignment; OR The Equivalent. Desired Qualifications Relevant upper division and/or graduate credit coursework in the biological sciences with a biotechnology relevant background. Demonstrated experience and success in planning, preparing, and teaching biotechnology and introductory biology courses appropriate for the community college environment. Demonstrated knowledge or leadership experience writing, developing, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating new curriculum, coursework materials and laboratories using current technologies. Demonstrated experience mentoring / training students through professional development activities, teaching experience, and industry experience / connections. Demonstrated ability to work collegially and collaboratively with students, colleagues, administrators, and other staff. Demonstrated ability to connect with students in career education programs and network with industry to provide opportunities for student success. Demonstrated experience with participatory governance, committee, and/or department work in an academic setting including knowledge and experience with SLOs and Program Review processes. Demonstrated effective written and oral communication skills. Demonstrated cultural competency and sensitivity to diverse backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff. Equivalency If you do not possess the exact degrees listed above or if you anticipate receiving the required degree prior to the start of teaching, please complete a Request for Equivalency Form and attach it during the application process. The Position San Diego Miramar College is now accepting applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Biotechnology, with an anticipated start date in Spring 2026. The college is located in the Mira Mesa / Scripps Ranch area and is part of the San Diego Community College District. This full-time position requires 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, with potential day, evening, Saturday, and off-campus assignments. The selected candidate must be flexible and willing to adjust workdays and hours as needed.
