- MILLIONS of customers will be impacted by your contributions: The changes we make directly impact the customer experience on every Amazon site. This is a great position for someone who likes backend and Service Oriented Architecture, but wants to see and measure their direct impact on customers.
- We are a cross‐functional team that owns the ENTIRE delivery experience for customers: From the business requirements to the technical systems that allow us to directly affect the on‐site experience from a central service, business and technical team members are integrated so everyone is involved through the entire process.
We are looking for a Software Development Manager to help build new initiatives for Delivery for the Speed team, and manage the innovation streams for this program. We are growing fast and pushing the boundaries on the fast delivery customer experience.
Key job responsibilities
- Define the strategy and roadmap for your team.
- Hire and develop the industry's best talent to build a strong and well-balanced team.
- Work across the organization to deliver the best in‐class delivery experience for our customers while balancing critical business objectives.
- Build the next generation systems for representing delivery choices to allow rapid innovation in the area of User Experience.
- Build software that easily extends to meet the high growth of Amazon's delivery business and capabilities.
- Own and operate mission critical services that are highly reliable and highly low latency.
- Influence Machine Learning/Artificial Intelligence initiatives to select the best delivery speeds and options for customers.
A day in the life
You will lead in a fast‐paced environment, guiding a team of smart software engineers to architect and develop the right technical solutions to meet the needs of the business. You will be in charge of the complete software development lifecycle: defining, prioritizing, designing, building, and testing new features. We care about both delighting customers and high quality software; we don't sacrifice one for the other. We're looking for someone with a demonstrated track record of hiring and leading teams of software development engineers to build and run highly‐scalable, global software solutions.
Basic Qualifications
- 7+ years of engineering experience.
- 3+ years of engineering team management experience.
- 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi‐tier web services.
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations.
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams.
- Experience designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy.
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers.
