/p h3About the Team /h3 pYou will join Wakam's Motor Underwriting team, which plays a central role in shaping underwriting performance, portfolio quality and sustainable growth across multiple European markets.
The team works at the crossroads of Underwriting, Pricing, Claims, Distribution, Product, Reinsurance and Compliance and supports broker, MGA and platform partnerships with technical underwriting expertise and a data-driven approach to decision-making.
/p h3Your Mission /h3 pAs a Senior Motor Fleet Underwriter (12 months fixed-term), you will take ownership of Wakam's European commercial motor fleet portfolio, driving underwriting performance, strengthening broker and MGA relationships and contributing to product and market strategy across several jurisdictions.
You will act as a technical authority on fleet underwriting, combining risk selection, pricing discipline, market insight and portfolio steering to ensure profitable and sustainable growth.
/p h3Your Responsibilities /h3 ul liUnderwrite new business and renewals across commercial motor fleet segments (PHV/taxi, delivery, leasing fleets, etc.), assess risk quality using exposure data, loss history, fleet management practices, driver profiles and sector information and apply technical pricing models and rating tools to determine adequate premiums.
/li liNegotiate terms with brokers and MGAs to achieve balanced outcomes on price, coverage and conditions, and manage quotes, binders, endorsements and monitor in-force accounts for mid-term changes.
/li liMonitor the combined operating ratio and loss ratio of the fleet portfolio on a regular basis, identify trends and take corrective actions.
Track performance by segment, geography, broker, vehicle type and fleet size and contribute to quarterly portfolio reviews and management reporting.
/li liActively manage underperforming accounts through rate action, tighter coverage terms or non-renewal decisions where appropriate; produce underwriting MI and data analysis to support portfolio steering and work closely with actuarial teams on pricing adequacy, experience reviews and reserving discussions.
/li liContribute to the development and ongoing refinement of fleet pricing models, rating tools, underwriting guidelines, referral matrices and appetite statements, incorporating market intelligence and claims experience into pricing assumptions.
/li liMonitor external market conditions such as competitor pricing, capacity changes and emerging risks (EV fleets, ADAS, autonomous vehicles, gig-economy operators, mobility-as-a-service platforms).
/li liBuild and maintain strong relationships with specialist fleet brokers, Lloyd's brokers and MGA partners across Europe; lead broker meetings, scheme reviews and renewal discussions, support onboarding of new fleet schemes and delegated authority arrangements, and represent Wakam in market discussions and industry forums.
/li liUnderwrite cross-border fleet risks and multi-jurisdiction programmes, navigating local regulatory requirements, mandatory covers and market practices across countries such as the UK, France, Spain, Italy, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium and the Nordics.
/li liWork closely with claims teams on large or complex fleet losses, support claims reviews, identify fraud indicators and leakage patterns and contribute to wording reviews to ensure coverage remains robust and fit for purpose.
/li liOperate within underwriting authorities and governance frameworks, maintain accurate records in underwriting systems, prepare submissions for internal committees and support audit and compliance processes across relevant markets.
/li /ul h3What You Bring /h3 ul liSignificant motor fleet underwriting experience, ideally within an insurer, Lloyd's syndicate or specialist MGA.
/li liA proven track record managing fleet portfolios across multiple European markets.
/li liExperience underwriting large and complex fleet accounts, including structures involving deductibles, captives or self-insured elements.
/li liStrong technical underwriting capabilities in risk assessment, pricing, coverage structuring and portfolio steering.
/li liComfort interpreting loss runs, claims statistics and actuarial analyses.
/li liStrong command of tools such as Excel and, ideally, Power BI or similar BI platforms, plus familiarity with underwriting and pricing systems.
/li liGood understanding of reinsurance structures relevant to fleet business (XL, quota share and aggregate covers).
/li liFamiliarity with European motor insurance regulation, including cross-border requirements and compulsory insurance frameworks.
/li liFluent in English; an additional European language (French, Spanish, German, Italian, Dutch) is a strong plus.
/li liA professional qualification such as ACII (or equivalent), or progress toward it, is preferred.
