As a Software Tester Apprentice, you'll have the chance to play a pivotal role in the development and deployment of cutting-edge software solutions. You'll work alongside our seasoned team of testing experts, learning to hone your skills in manual and automated testing, defect management, and risk mitigation. You'll also cultivate critical communication and collaboration skills, serving as a bridge between development teams, business stakeholders, and end-users.
Key job responsibilities
- Develop an understanding of the software development lifecycle, from requirements analysis to deployment.
- Analyse software and systems to proactively identify and mitigate potential risk and issues.
- Participate in the quality assurance stage of software development and deployment process.
- Conduct both manual and automated tests to ensure the software created by developers is fit for purpose and free from any bugs before it reaches end-users.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to log defects, provide regular updates, and drive continuous improvement.
Throughout your apprenticeship, you'll develop a deep understanding of the software development lifecycle, mastering techniques to analyse requirements, design comprehensive test plans, and execute a diverse array of test scenarios. Whether you're conducting functional, non-functional, or change-related testing, you'll approach each challenge with a meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to ensuring the highest levels of software quality.

During this apprenticeship you will build a range of useful experiences and skills whilst working towards the Level 4 Software Tester apprenticeship. You will spend 20 % of your time learning and developing your skills, knowledge and behaviours to work towards successful graduation. Your apprenticeship will be a 24‑month program starting in September, comprising classroom/virtual training, on‑the‑job training, online learning and mentoring.
As part of your off‑the‑job learning you may be required to travel to a training centre. Candidates should be prepared for occasional travel as part of the apprenticeship programme.
Basic Qualifications
- Be 18 years or over before the start date (September 2026).
- Have the right to live and work in England (if you are on a visa, this needs to enable you to legally work and reside in England for the entire duration of the programme).
- Have lived in the UK or in the European Economic Area (EEA) for the last 3 years.
- Be a resident of the UK for the entire duration of the programme.
- Not be registered to study on a UK government funded course ending August 2026 or later.
- Have at least 5 GCSEs at grade 4‑9 (A‑C) or above (or equivalent) including Maths and English.
- Have an A Level in STEM subject, or BTEC Diploma in STEM subject, or Level 3 IT apprenticeship.
- If you have received educational qualifications outside the UK, we will require a Statement of Comparability to confirm your eligibility for the scheme (please obtain through UK ENIC: https://www.enic.org.uk/).
- Previous qualifications will be reviewed for funding eligibility and offers are subject to funding approval.
- This apprenticeship assumes the candidate has some or little knowledge/experience of the occupation.
