RINA is currently recruiting for a Junior Plan Approval Engineer to join its office in Trieste, Italy within the Mediterranean and Africa Marine Division.
The Junior Hull Plan Approval Engineer supports the development and review of detailed vessel plans, helping to identify and resolve issues related to design requirements while ensuring compliance with client specifications, classification rules, and international standards. Contributes to approval activities for newbuilds, conversions, and existing vessels, including commercial ships and yachts.
Assist in reviewing drawings and technical documentation related to fire protection systems, life‐saving appliances, safety arrangements, and emergency systems.
Provide basic technical support to clients during vessel design and construction phases on safety, fire protection, and lifesaving equipment matters.
Help identify minor non‐conformities or inconsistencies in safety plans and arrangements.
Collect relevant technical data for safety plan approval activities.
Contribute to the preparation of technical reports, safety assessments, and engineering drawings.
Apply basic project management principles to manage simple activities.
Provide updates to the Project Manager and help elevate issues when necessary.
Master's Degree in Naval Engineering
0‐2 years of experience in ship structural design, shipbuilding, or classification society plan approval.
Basic knowledge of ship structure, strength analysis, and material properties.
RINA, DNV, ABS, BV, LR) and international regulations (SOLAS, MARPOL, CSR, IACS URs, IMO codes).
Basic knowledge of plan approval procedures, including the review of drawings for compliance with class and statutory requirements.
Basic knowledge in ship structural analysis tools (e.g., Ansys, FEMAP, MAESTRO, NAPA Steel) and CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Aveva Marine, ShipConstructor).
Understanding of finite element analysis (FEA), fatigue assessment, and buckling calculations.
DOMAIN & BUSINESS ACUMEN - Applying a scientific approach and critical thinking in operations and solution development within area of expertise.
