The present announcement does not constitute a formal recruitment procedure, but rather a scouting initiative to identify profiles of interest. Candidates will be invited to apply through an official public competition/bando.
Overview
The Computational and Translational Genomics Laboratory (CTGLab) at IIT-CNR, Pisa-Siena, Italy, is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher in Computational Genomics to join our team working on the TRANSCAN-3 SeqPerGlio project: "Intraoperative tumour sequencing for personalized loco-regional drug combination therapy against glioblastoma recurrences".
The position offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of cutting-edge computational innovation and direct clinical translation in precision neuro-oncology. The successful candidate will develop novel computational methodologies for real-time genomic and epigenomic profiling using Oxford Nanopore Technologies (ONT) long-read sequencing, contributing to personalized treatment strategies for glioblastoma patients.
Project Description
SeqPerGlio is an international TRANSCAN-3 consortium project (2 focused on establishing intraoperative molecular profiling workflows to guide personalized drug combination therapy for glioblastoma. The project integrates:
- Real-time nanopore sequencing of tumor specimens during surgery
- Multi-omics data integration (genomics, transcriptomics, epigenomics)
- Clinical decision support for loco-regional therapy selection
- Direct collaboration with neurosurgery centers across Europe
Responsibilities
Design and implement computational pipelines for real-time analysis of Oxford Nanopore long-read sequencing data, including:
Structural variant detection and clonality assessment
DNA methylation profiling and tumor classification
RNA isoform analysis and fusion detection
Integration with clinical genomic databases
Develop novel algorithms for:
Rapid quality control and data processing optimized for clinical timelines
Multi-omics data integration from nanopore, single-cell, and imaging data
Biomarker identification for therapy response prediction
Tumor heterogeneity characterization
Collaborate closely with wet-lab scientists, clinicians, and neurosurgeons to:
Translate computational results into actionable clinical insights
Establish validation protocols and quality metrics
Contribute to standard operating procedures for clinical implementation
Contribute to scientific dissemination through publications in high-impact journals, presentations at international conferences, and consortium reports
