Background and Purpose of the Assignment
WFP, as the lead agency of the Logistics Cluster, maintains a Global Logistics Cluster Support Team (GLC) based in the Supply Chain Division of WFP HQ in Rome. It is comprised of a diverse multi-skilled group of logisticians and is mandated by the Inter-Agency Standing Committee (IASC) to complement and coordinate the logistics capabilities of co-operating humanitarian agencies during large-scale emergencies and disasters. WFP aims to enhance global partnerships for sustainable development and support the achievement of the SDGs in developing countries. The assignment covers the Relief Item Tracking Application (RITA) and the Logistics Information Exchange platform (Log:ie). The RITA developer will provide technical support and development for RITA, and the Log:ie developer will support the Log:ie platform and related preparedness work.
Accountabilities/Responsibilities
- Provide software development and advice on the further enhancement of RITA in coordination with the RITA development team.
- Ensure issues raised in the RITA Ticket Tracking System are addressed in a timely manner.
- Provide technical advice on how RITA can evolve to meet cargo tracking needs.
- Ensure RITA provides necessary reporting metrics required by active clusters in field locations.
- Supervise and guide other developers hired for temporary technical support.
- Train WFP ICT staff to maintain RITA on WFP servers and perform basic programming maintenance tasks.
- Support field operations through timely bug fixes and software updates.
- Ensure proper documentation of all coding work and up-to-date technical reference manuals.
- Maintain confidentiality and security of information stored on the Supply Chain Maps and align with OSCC/OSCL standards.
- Assess business requirements and advise technical solutions with estimated time and cost to implement.
- Implement agreed changes and test to ensure no undermining of existing functionality.
- Liaise with TEC and Supply Chain to support NFI Tracking Tool project.
- Perform other related duties as required for the Log:ie platform and related components.
First Minimum Viable Product (MVP) version of the Logistics Cluster Preparedness and Response Platform rolled out and available for targeted project countries.
Qualifications & Experience Required
Education: University degree in Computer Science, Data Sciences, Social Science (ideally cross-disciplinary with data sciences), Engineering, Math or relevant field with related experience in information management and data analytics.
Languages: Fluency in English required; knowledge of another UN language preferred.
