Role Overview
Role Purpose
We are looking for an experienced Educational Editor or Secondary Educator to act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for our English Language Teaching (ELT) portfolio. You will be responsible for reviewing global English content (US/UK-based) and ensuring it is pedagogically sound and culturally relevant for English learners in your specific local market.
Note: This is an editorial and advisory role; it does not involve writing new content from scratch, but rather adapting existing materials to ensure market success.
Key Responsibilities
1. Curriculum Alignment & Pedagogical Review
* National Standards: Review US/UK-based ELT textbooks and digital assets to ensure they align with the national curriculum of the target country.
* Academic Levelling: Verify that the linguistic progression (CEFR levels) matches the expectations for both Lower Secondary (approx. ages 11–15) and Upper Secondary (ages 16–19) students.
* Gap Analysis: Identify areas where grammar or vocabulary coverage may need adjustment to meet local examination requirements (academic or vocational).
2. Cultural Sensitivity & Visual Audit
* Contextualization: Review all written content to ensure scenarios, names, and references are relatable and appropriate for the local student demographic.
* Visual Review: Audit illustrations and photography to identify any culturally insensitive or irrelevant imagery that may hinder student engagement.
* Authenticity: Suggest minor edits to make listening passages and reading texts feel authentic to the local learner's lived experience.
Candidate Profile & Qualifications
Required Experience
* Educational Background: Extensive experience as a Secondary School teacher or Educational Editor within the target country's school system.
* Subject Expertise: Deep knowledge of the local ELT landscape, including national curriculum structures and local grading systems.
* Language Skills: Native-level proficiency in the target country's language and high-level fluency in English (C1/C2 level).
Key Competencies
* Market Insight: Ability to identify what makes an ELT book \"successful\" in your specific country's classrooms.
* Attention to Detail: Precision in identifying subtle cultural nuances in both text and art.
* Efficiency: Ability to provide clear, actionable feedback to global editorial teams.
