The United Nations Global Service Centre (UNGSC) provides critical Supply Chain, Geospatial, Information and Telecommunications Technologies services and Training to all Secretariat Entities, Peacekeeping and Special Political Missions, Agencies, Funds and Programmes of the UN system worldwide. This position is located in the United Nations Global Service Centre, Brindisi, Italy within the Central Maintenance & Repair Unit / 3R cell. The incumbent reports directly to the Chief, Supply Chain Service, UNGSC.
Responsibilities
Within delegated authority, the Logistics Officer will be responsible for the following duties:
1. Lead CMRU in the 3R (Return, Refurbish, Reuse) project, from the initial acceptance of equipment to the final inspection and acceptance of the equipment by the receiving Mission.
2. Review and analyze technical inspection reports and the related costs of refurbishment.
3. Draft Scopes of Work (SOWs) for outsourcing services / spare parts for equipment refurbishment.
4. Develop work plans based on equipment, refurbishment requirements, and timelines; monitor and update progress, and mitigate risks or delays.
5. Provide effective planning, oversight, management, and coordination of logistics support operations.
6. Implement and monitor logistics support plans at field missions or service centers.
7. Develop policies and procedures for DOS field logistics support.
8. Coordinate logistics matters between field missions and Headquarters, supporting day-to-day logistics operations.
9. Plan and coordinate logistics support for peacekeeping operations and other field missions.
10. Manage logistics field operations.
11. Ensure logistics requirements consider gender-specific needs.
12. Develop plans for assessing material, staff, troops, movements, and operational budgets.
13. Certify logistics operations as required.
14. Mentor new and junior officers.
15. Collect and analyze data to identify trends, presenting insights through visualizations to support data-driven decision-making.
16. Perform other related duties as required.
Education
Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in logistics, business administration, public administration, engineering, or related field is required. A first-level degree with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted.
Job-Specific Qualification
Completion of degree and non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics, or data science is desirable.
Work Experience
Minimum of seven (07) years of experience in surface and/or air transport, logistics operations in military, commercial, or international organizations. Experience supporting field operations, including peacekeeping missions or similar, is desirable. Asset management, reverse logistics, or data analytics experience is also desirable.
Languages
Fluency in English (oral and written) is required. Knowledge of French is an advantage, but not specified as required.
