About Guild Living
Guild Living is building the technology layer for the future of senior living.
We create vibrant, longevity-focused communities designed for people over 65, combining wellbeing, hospitality, healthcare insight, and meaningful social connection. Our approach is guided by the Guild Longevity Framework, which supports wellbeing across three interconnected dimensions: emotional, physical, and cognitive health.
Our technology platform brings these experiences together, combining resident engagement, wellbeing insight, and staff operations into a unified system designed specifically for modern senior living environments.
We are currently piloting our platform at our Siena property in Tuscany, with plans to scale across multiple sites and significantly expand our AI-driven personalisation capabilities throughout 2026.
The role
We are looking for a Machine Learning Engineer to join our small, focused Technology team and help build AI systems that directly improve quality of life for older adults.
You will work closely with the Tech Lead to develop and deploy machine learning features at the core of the Guild Living platform, from personalised wellness recommendations and intelligent activity matching to early wellbeing signal detection and conversational AI experiences.
This is a hands-on role with meaningful ownership. You will contribute across the full ML lifecycle, from experimentation and evaluation through to deployment, monitoring, and iteration in production.
You’ll be joining at an early stage, with the opportunity to shape foundational AI architecture and influence how machine learning is applied responsibly within the future of senior living.
Key responsibilities
LLM and RAG systems
- Build and maintain RAG pipelines powering personalised wellness recommendations based on resident profiles, wellbeing indicators, preferences, and available activities
- Evaluate and integrate open-source and third-party LLMs, contributing to model selection and architecture decisions
- Develop prompt engineering and retrieval strategies to improve recommendation quality and relevance
- Support the development of conversational AI features, including wellbeing assessments and mood check-ins
ML modelling and data
- Develop models for behavioural pattern recognition, activity engagement prediction, and wellbeing signal detection
- Work with structured and unstructured datasets from resident inputs, booking systems, and operational workflows
- Design evaluation frameworks to measure model performance and monitor drift in production
- Ensure ML systems align with GDPR and emerging EU AI Act requirements, including explainability and data minimisation principles
Platform Integration & MLOps
- Build APIs and microservices exposing ML capabilities across the wider platform
- Support deployment, monitoring, and CI/CD workflows for ML infrastructure
- Contribute to Guild Living’s local-first AI architecture strategy to reduce vendor lock-in and improve data control
- Write clean, maintainable, well-documented Python code
Collaboration
- Partner closely with the Tech Lead on architecture, code review, and technical planning
- Participate in quarterly visits to our Siena property to understand resident and staff workflows first-hand
- Help establish engineering best practices and contribute to knowledge sharing within the team
What we are looking for
- 3-5 years of experience in machine learning engineering or applied AI with production deployments
- Strong Python skills and experience across the full ML lifecycle
- Hands-on experience with LLMs, RAG architectures, embeddings, prompt engineering, and evaluation workflows
- Experience deploying ML systems using cloud infrastructure and containerised environments xlwpduy (GCP and OVH are a plus)
- Tech stack: Python, TypeScript, Flutter, PostgreSQL, FastAPI, Docker, Kubernetes, GCP, OVH, OpenAI-compatible APIs, and local/open-source LLMs.
- Understanding of data privacy principles and GDPR-compliant system design
- Comfortable working in a small, distributed, fast-moving team
- Fluent English communication skills
Nice to have
- Experience with parameter-efficient fine-tuning methodologies such as LoRA and QLoRA, and familiarity with optimisation frameworks including Hugging Face TRL, Unsloth, or LLaMA-Factory
- Experience in healthtech, caretech, wellness, or consumer-facing AI products
- Familiarity with EU AI Act compliance requirements
- Experience with local or on-device model deployment
- Exposure to conversational AI or voice interfaces
- Italian language skills
What we offer
- A meaningful mission using technology to improve quality of life and longevity
- A small, senior team where your work has direct visibility and impact
- Fully remote working with quarterly visits to beautiful Siena, Tuscany
- Competitive salary benchmarked to your local market
- Opportunity to grow into greater technical ownership as the company scales
- The chance to work at the intersection of AI, healthtech, hospitality, and human wellbeing
