Tecnimont is seeking a Materials Buyer Senior to join our team in Catania. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in providing integrated solutions for complex plants designed to provide access to the latest technologies in our large-scale projects worldwide. The role involves operating within an international and highly structured EPC environment, supporting both tendering and project execution phases through coordination with internal stakeholders, suppliers, and project teams. Mission

Support all procurement activities related to proprietary and critical equipment/materials associated with the projects and products developed by the company, ensuring proper supplier management, commercial evaluation, negotiation support, and purchase order issuance in compliance with project requirements, company procedures, budget targets, and project schedules. Ensure supply chain integrity across the global network, maintaining effective communications with vendors and internal teams. Coordinate with the Inspection and Qualification department to qualify suppliers, including field visits when necessary.

Main Activities & Responsibilities

Prepare bidder lists according to project and product requirements. Issue Requests for Quotation (RFQs) for proprietary and critical equipment/materials, leveraging e-Procurement systems. Receive suppliers' offers and track and archive them within Group systems. Liaise with the technical departments of the involved Tecnimont companies to technically evaluate offers. Prepare and issue commercial evaluations to the MB Manager for strategic assessment and decision‑making. Support Project Teams by highlighting reasons for extra budgets and proposing mitigation actions. Provide cost input for proprietary and critical equipment/materials cost models to support budgeting and internal benchmarking. Manage operational relationships with suppliers and maintain communication with vendors throughout procurement activities. Conduct commercial negotiations with suppliers in alignment with the MB Manager. Assist the MB Manager in customizing back‑to‑back contracts according to project, product, and supplier requirements. Issue purchase orders in SAP once project numbers are available. Issue purchase orders autonomously for products covered by framework agreements and approved price lists. Gather and maintain relevant supplier data, including revenues, Group intake, delivery performance, and quality KPIs. Support the MB Manager in interfacing with internal company functions such as Business Development, Engineering, Legal, and Project Control departments. Assist in drafting recommendations for award where required. Support the handover of awarded contracts to post‑order functions. Report regularly on procurement and buying activities. Ensure compliance with internal procedures, methodologies, and procurement protocols. Collaborate with the Project Procurement Manager / Coordinator during execution to resolve commercial issues with vendors, including claims, change‑order requests, Liquidated Damages discussions, and contractual matters. Contribute to the continuous improvement of procurement processes, supplier management activities, and internal coordination workflows.

Required Qualifications & Skills

7/10 years of Purchasing experience. Experience operating within international and challenging environments. Experience in end‑to‑end tender management (RFx process). Knowledge of e‑Procurement systems is considered a plus. Experience in supplier negotiation on commercial and contractual Terms & Conditions. Experience in contract preparation and commercial documentation management. SAP knowledge for procurement and supplies management. Ability to interface effectively with internal stakeholders and cross‑functional teams. Ability to manage multiple priorities and operate within complex project environments. Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to manage conflicting situations. Strong written and verbal communication skills in English. Team player with the ability to build and maintain internal and external relationships. Good computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office applications and SAP. Availability to travel in Italy and abroad for short periods.

Preferred Qualifications

Degree in Civil Engineering is considered a plus. Technical diploma (e.g. Surveyor/Geometra) may also be considered, provided the candidate has previous experience within medium‑large companies, preferably EPC contractors or international construction companies. Previous experience in the procurement of construction materials for civil projects, including both indoor and outdoor building materials and site‑related materials, is preferred. Previous experience in procurement of steel structures, metal carpentry, building materials, or construction‑related materials is considered a strong plus. Previous experience within EPC, construction, engineering, or industrial environments is considered a strong advantage. Design experience in engineering departments is considered a plus.
