Internship Opportunities at Huawei Italy Research Centers

We are currently offering exciting internship opportunities in four key areas: Central Hardware Engineering, Wireless Communications, Intelligent Automotive Solution and Digital Power.
Internship Areas:
1. Central Hardware Engineering Team – Milan Research Center
We are looking for interns who will work on solving challenging physics-based optimization problems. You will have the opportunity to develop and implement advanced numerical algorithms and tools. Specific tasks include:
* Develop and implement advanced numerical algorithms and tools for solving complex physics-based optimization problems (electromagnetic knowledge not required).
* Explore innovative applications of artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance the computational efficiency of physics-based models and systems.
* Collaborate on cutting-edge research projects related to electromagnetic design and contribute to scientific advancements in the field.
2. Wireless Team – Milan Research Center
The Wireless Team internship will provide you with the opportunity to contribute to the optimization of 5G and Beyond radio networks. You will be involved in applying creative algorithmic solutions in several areas, including linear and non-linear optimization, predictive AI, online learning, Bayesian inference, and big data analysis. Specific tasks include:
* Propose creative algorithmic solutions in the fields of optimization, predictive AI, and machine learning.
* Contribute to the research and development of innovative communication paradigms for next-generation wireless technologies.
* Analyze and optimize large-scale data sets to drive advancements in 5G and Beyond network optimization.
3. Intelligent Automotive Solution Team – Pisa Research Center
We are looking for interns who will contribute to the development of advanced timing analysis tools and AI-driven optimization frameworks for embedded systems. You will have the opportunity to design, implement, and integrate innovative runtime monitoring and latency optimization mechanisms. Specific tasks include:
* Develop runtime adaptive configuration capabilities to provide optimal memory allocation monitoring depending on system load and usage, minimizing the impact on overall performance.
* Study optimized memory patterns to detect DDR memory faults while minimizing runtime impact.
* Develop a tool for tracing disk write patterns and monitoring key performance metrics.
* Integrate third-party tools to compute task and function execution times using QEMU simulation and provide full system scheduling simulation.
* Create AI agents and optimize Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) databases to minimize latency and improve accuracy, leveraging LLM-assisted model
* Development and AI agent performance enhancement.
* Research and design latency optimization methods for end devices. Review state-of-the-art papers, reproduce proof-of-concept (PoC) experiments, and evaluate potential latency improvements for LLM applications on edge devices.
4. Digital Power Team – Pisa Research Center
We are looking for interns who will work on enhancing Model-Based Design (MBD) tools with artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. You will have the opportunity to explore how large language models (LLMs) and natural language processing (NLP) can automate model generation and accelerate system design. Specific tasks include:
* Investigate the usage of large language models (LLMs) to automatically generate MBD diagrams from user requirements expressed in natural language.
* Develop and test iterative prompting and mixed-input approaches that combine AI-assisted diagram generation with manual model refinement.
* Implement NLP-based techniques to ensure model consistency, correctness, and semantic alignment with the original system requirements.
* Research and develop algorithms to improve model generation accuracy, reduce design errors, and enhance development efficiency.
* Explore multi-language query support and incremental design features to refine and extend diagrams through natural-language input.
* Contribute to proof-of-concept (PoC) research for AI-assisted model creation, testing, and validation workflows.

Qualifications:
* Currently enrolled in a Bachelor or Master's program in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Automation, Telecommunications, Artificial Intelligence, or a related technical field.
* Participation in math, computer science, or programming contests (such as Mathematical Olympiads, Olympiad in Informatics, ITACPC, SWERC, etc.) is highly preferred.
* Strong programming skills (e.g., Python, MATLAB, C/C++).
* Solid understanding of algorithms, optimization techniques, and/or AI/machine learning.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
* Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
* Enthusiasm for working on complex, interdisciplinary research projects.
