Sr. Systems Development Engineer, AWS Managed Operations (MO) AWSOM Team
Job ID: 3020817 | Amazon Development Center U.S., Inc.
We are looking for highly motivated Senior Systems Development Engineers who can balance day‑to‑day operations of AWS software systems with long‑term engineering to reduce operational toil. You will be part of a team building best‑in‑class engineering and operations for AWS Regions.
Key Job Responsibilities
* Solve challenging technical problems, often ones not solved before, at every layer of the stack.
* Investigate and root‑cause production incidents, such as deployment failures and Service Level Objective (SLO) violations.
* Design and implement solutions that address recurring technical issues and improve system reliability, availability, and performance.
* Update infrastructure as code (IaC), deploy new software, and replace legacy hardware or software components to optimize performance and reduce carbon emissions.
Day in the Life
Approximately 50% of the time is spent operating production systems, while 50% is dedicated to long‑term improvements. For example, in a typical week you might root‑cause recent deployment failures, identify a common error pattern, design a broader fix, gather team feedback, update IaC, and develop new software that replaces older fleet hardware.
Basic Qualifications

* 5+ years of systems development in an IT or data center environment.

* Experience leading the design, build and deployment of complex and performant (reliable and scalable) software solutions in production.
Preferred Qualifications
* 6+ years of experience deploying and operating in a Linux/Unix environment.
* 6+ years of designing or architecting systems with design patterns, reliability, and scaling.
* 4+ years of development, programming, or scripting experience (Python, Java, Bash, Perl).
* Experience programming with at least one modern language such as Python, Ruby, Golang, Java, C++, C#, or Rust.
* Experience taking a leading role in building complex software or computing infrastructure that has been successfully delivered to customers.
