Ph3Job Summary /h3 ul liA database engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the databases that support an organization’s operations. This includes tasks such as designing and creating new databases, optimizing and troubleshooting existing databases, migrating the data from one database to another (Oracle/DB2 to Postgres) and ensuring the security and availability of the data. /li liThe candidate should have a strong technical background and experience with database management systems, SQL, and database design principles. They should also have excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills and the ability to work well with cross‑functional teams. /li /ul h3Key Responsibilities /h3 ul liDesigning, implementing, and maintaining databases to support an organization’s operations /li liBe involved in all stages of the software development lifecycle from design to development, testing, and deployment. /li liAbility to work in application build using Java, Spring boot technologies /li liAbility to work with database developers, engineers, and different operations and application engineering teams to help them to identify, analyze, and resolve database performance issues /li liCollaborate with software engineers and DevOps teams to design and implement technical designs and solutions /li liAdhering to best practices in securely storing, backing up, and archiving data. /li liDocumenting processes related to database design, configuration, and performance. /li liKeeping abreast of developments and best practices in database engineering. /li liOptimizing and troubleshooting existing databases to ensure they perform efficiently /li liEnsuring the security and availability of the data stored in the databases /li liDesigning and implementing data backup and recovery procedures /li liCollaborating with other teams such as developers and operations to ensure the databases meet the needs of the business /li liContinuously researching and evaluating new database technologies and trends to recommend and implement improvements /li liDevelop and maintain documentation and standard operating procedures for database infrastructure and services /li liStrong understanding of database management systems like MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, SQL Server, MongoDB, DB2, etc. /li liStrong understanding of SQL and experience with database design and optimization. /li liStrong understanding of database security and data encryption. /li liStrong understanding of database replication and high availability. /li liStrong understanding of backup and recovery, disaster recovery procedures. /li liStrong understanding of cloud‑based database services like RDS, Aurora, CosmosDB, etc. /li liStrong communication and collaboration skills, able to work with cross‑functional teams. /li liStrong understanding of Linux/Unix and Windows operating systems. /li liFamiliarity with monitoring and performance tuning tools. /li /ul h3Strategy /h3 pAwareness and understanding of the business strategy and model appropriate to the role. /p h3Business /h3 pAwareness and understanding of Retail business, the wider business, economic and market environment in which the Group operates. /p h3Processes /h3 pAwareness and understanding of Agile s/w development process, change and release management process. /p h3Regulatory Business Conduct /h3 ul liDisplay exemplary conduct and live by the Group’s Values and Code of Conduct. /li liTake personal responsibility for embedding the highest standards of ethics, including regulatory and business conduct, across Standard Chartered Bank. This includes understanding and ensuring compliance with, in letter and spirit, all applicable laws, regulations, guidelines and the Group Code of Conduct. /li liEffectively and collaboratively identify, mitigate and resolve risk, conduct and compliance matters. /li /ul h3Qualifications /h3 ul li9+ years of work experience in software development using database technologies tools and Java/J2EE. /li liShould have hands‑on experience on Spring boot microservices. /li liIn‑depth knowledge of Structured Query Language (SQL), Java and Spring boot. /li liExtensive experience with database technologies and architecture. /li liExtensive experience in data migration between different databases. /li liSound knowledge of best practices in database engineering and data security. /li liThorough understanding of database performance monitoring and analysis tools. /li liExpertise in database server specification, performance tuning, analysis and optimization. /li liStrong experience in database disaster recovery planning and recovery. /li liExperience with Oracle, DB2, Postgres and/or MongoDB desired. /li liExperience with AWS/GCP/Azure desired. /li liStrong organizational skills and attention to detail. /li liExceptional problem‑solving and critical thinking skills. /li liTeam‑player, flexible and able to work in a fast‑paced environment. /li /ul h3Skills and Experience /h3 ul liAPI Microservices /li liContainer Platforms (OpenShift, Kubernetes) /li liDatabase Technologies (SQL, NoSQL) /li liIntegration Technologies /li liAgile Methodologies, Lean Framework /li liWeb Mobile app skills /li /ul h3About Standard Chartered /h3 pWe’re an international bank, nimble enough to act, big enough for impact.
