As a Workplace Health & Safety Specialist (WHSS), you’ll help transform workplace safety culture, protect employees, and influence how safety is implemented across operations. You’ll build relationships, drive data‑driven safety programs, and promote a proactive safety culture that supports both safety and productivity.
Core Responsibilities
- Safety Program Excellence & Implementation: Drive safety programs with data‑driven strategies; lead daily safety audits, incident investigations, and risk assessments; implement innovative solutions to prevent injuries; deliver engaging safety training; champion continuous improvement to enhance safety and maintain operational efficiency.
- Associate Advocacy & Cultural Leadership: Serve as a trusted safety advisor and advocate for associate wellbeing; partner across organizational levels; foster a culture where safety is everyone’s priority; coach and reinforce safe practices; transform safety data into compelling narratives to influence change and drive engagement.
Additional Job Elements
- Lift up to 49 pounds and frequently push, pull, squat, bend, and reach.
- Stand/walk for up to 12 hours during shifts.
- Work in environments with variable noise levels and temperatures (delivery stations include outside loading departments).
- Continuously climb and descend stairs (applies to sites with stairs).
- Must be available to work flexible shifts including days, nights, and/or weekends.
For candidates without an adult First Aid, CPR, AED certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross, certification must be obtained within 3 weeks of start date.
Basic Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- A minimum of 1 year in an environmental Health & Safety (EHS) related field OR a bachelor’s degree in an EHS‑relevant background OR 6 months experience in a safety‑related role within Amazon.
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations, specifically 29 CFR 1910.
- Experience using Microsoft Word and Excel in a professional capacity.
- Experience maintaining confidentiality in matters involving security and/or personal issues in the workplace.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher, preferably in a safety‑related field.
- Strong communication, teamwork, analysis, judgment, and customer‑focus skills.
- Experience leading a team and analyzing accident data, processes, and machinery for safety concerns; ability to conduct job hazard analyses.
- Experience in emergency response and currently holds First Aid and CPR certificates.
- Experience in workers’ compensation case management.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $50,500/year in our lowest geographic market to $76,500/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on factors including location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company; depending on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other benefits may be provided as part of a total compensation package.
