Data Center Facility ManagerJob ID: 10391357 | Amazon Data Services, Inc. (USA, VA, WOODFORD)Join our dynamic team as a critical technical leader who ensures the heartbeat of our global infrastructure remains strong and resilient. In this pivotal role, you will be the guardian of our data center operations, driving reliability and performance while optimizing operational efficiency across complex technical environments.We support all AWS data centers and all the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. You’ll collaborate with software, hardware, network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, and operations managers to deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers.This position supports data centers in various operational stages. It may be assigned to a facility still under development, requiring travel to established locations for training until your designated site becomes fully operational. Candidates must be able to travel (over 50 miles) or commute (less than 50 miles) to active data center sites as required by business needs.Candidate must be a US citizen and currently possess and maintain an active Top Secret security clearance with SCI eligibility. The position further requires that, after start, the selected candidate obtain and maintain an active TS/SCI clearance with polygraph and satisfy other security related requirements. The candidate will opt into a commensurate clearance for each government agency for which they perform AWS work.Key ResponsibilitiesOversee all aspects of the data center’s critical physical infrastructure, maintaining high availability and performance while ensuring all work complies with internal/external SLAs.Manage on-site teams of 24x7 shift technicians, subcontractors, and vendors, ensuring work follows established practices, procedures, and safety protocols.Drive safety and security culture and compliance within the team.Hire, coach, and promote team members, responsible for their career development and performance management.Promote healthy team culture and peak morale.Effectively and efficiently manage the operations budget and expenditures.Engage in improvement projects, often requiring collaboration with various support teams, and drive them from conception to completion.Act as an escalation point for all facilities-related issues, overseeing operation and management of routine and emergency services on critical systems such as switchgear, generators, UPS systems, chillers, cooling towers, handers, and building monitoring systems.Utilize root cause analysis and troubleshooting/problem‑solving skills.Respond to out‑of‑hours emergency calls.Basic Qualifications2+ years of people management and team development experience.5+ years of engineering work managing large‑scale services.Experience maintaining SLAs through proactive issue detection and reporting.Experience operating a mission‑critical team or product.High school diploma or equivalent.Current, active US Government Security Clearance of Top Secret with SCI eligibility or above.Preferred Qualifications3+ years of work in a management position with 5 or more direct reports.5+ years of work in data centers with an emphasis on building and equipment operation.Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.Knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems involved in critical data center operations, including feeders, transformers, generators, switchgear, UPS systems, ATS units, PDU units, chillers, pumps, air handling units, and CRAC units.Amazon is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of protected veteran status, disability, or other legally protected status. Your Amazon package will include sign‑on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
