Job Summary
The Field Service Representative (FSR) is the primary contact for Varian Medical Systems (VMS) customers, ensuring equipment operates efficiently through troubleshooting, repairs, installations, upgrades, and preventative maintenance.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose, repair, and maintain all VMS equipment within an assigned service territory.
- Perform installations, upgrades, and preventive maintenance following VMS guidelines.
- Manage a field service territory, communicating professionally with customers, team members, and management.
- Maintain schedules for maintenance, installations, upgrades, and incoming customer calls.
- Assess urgency of customer requests and follow-through to completion.
- Escalate incidents when necessary or request additional assistance from senior representatives.
- Resolve complex customer issues and meet established customer‑service levels.
- Submit timely field‑service reports and other required documentation per VMS procedures.
- Develop and maintain strong customer relationships through written and verbal communication.
Minimum Required Skills and Knowledge
- Comprehensive understanding of technical documentation, standards, principles, and techniques.
- Substantial knowledge of multi‑site and multi‑vendor customer environments.
- Proficiency with server and desktop hardware, operating systems, and networking.
- Ability to perform maintenance releases and upgrades independently while overseeing junior FSRs.
- Sound experience with complex, multi‑site, multi‑vendor customer sites.
- Capacity to defuse difficult customer situations.
Vendor Credentialing Requirements
- Full access to VMS client sites is required.
- Meet all vendor credentialing prerequisites: valid photo ID, criminal background check, drug screening, immunizations, annual TB testing, healthcare trainings.
- Maintain these credentials throughout employment.
Education and Experience
- Minimum: HS diploma or equivalent. Preferred: Associate degree, technical/vocational training, or military experience.
- 3–8 years of related field service engineering experience.
