Your New Role
The Director will support the production activities of WBD Italy, including two Warner Bros. Discovery departments: 1) Original Programming, Max Italy; and 2) Local Film Production, Warner Bros.
In relation to:
* Original Programming
* The work will focus on the original production activities of Max in Italy, primarily relating to the development and production of audiovisual programs, including dramas, documentaries, and non-scripted programming. The Director will work closely with the Group Vice President, Italy, and the original programming team, as well as local outside counsel, to ensure the provision of first-class legal and business affairs support.
In relation to:
* Local Film Production
* The work will involve collaboration with the Group Vice President, Italy, the local Film Production team working in production, finance, and creative, as well as outside counsel, to provide legal support for developing, co-producing, and distributing theatrical Italian titles for Warner Bros. Entertainment Italia.
Your Role Accountabilities
For Original Programming, Max Europe
* Drafting, negotiating, and reviewing agreements related to production work, such as development, production, distribution, format options, licenses, book options, publishing, scriptwriting, and services agreements with directors, actors, crew, locations, and suppliers.
* Monitoring ongoing productions and maintaining contact with production companies.
* Providing advice on Italian television industry production practices.
* Reviewing scripts, rough cuts, and advising on intellectual property clearance and compliance matters.
* Negotiating with unions regarding actors, creators, writers, and crew, including understanding relevant collective agreements.
* Preparing summaries and reports on legal matters, including research on doctrine and court decisions related to copyright, image rights, and data protection.
* Advising on production subsidies, tax rebates, and incentives in Italy, as well as co-production and co-finance arrangements.
* Addressing IP issues, compliance, and regulatory matters as needed.
* Finalizing production and finance agreements, including security, completion bonds, insurances, and risk assessments.
* Assisting in developing and updating templates and processes.
* Collaborating with the broader WBD Legal team on legal and business affairs impacting Italian production and implementing WBD policies.
For Local Theatrical Production
* Reviewing rights agreements, writer, actor, financing, distribution, and licensing agreements, and licenses for third-party materials.
* Managing transaction documents related to film development, production, distribution, and finance, ensuring conditions for financing and delivery are met, including agreements with international distributors and sales agents.
* Advising on subsidies, tax rebates, and incentives in Italy, and co-production/co-finance arrangements.
* Providing updates to local and London teams.
* Handling day-to-day queries about rights, restrictions, and approvals for local films, escalating issues as necessary.
* Managing and auditing chain-of-title documentation for projects.
Qualifications & Experience
* University Degree and qualification to practice law.
* Fluent in English and Italian.
* Media law experience, gained in-house or at a media law firm.
* Experience negotiating and drafting development, production, and distribution agreements for scripted and non-scripted content.
