Job Advert Description
North Wales Police are seeking applications for new independent members for appointment to their Ethics Committee. There are 5 positions available.
About the Ethics Committee
Transparency and integrity are crucial in helping to build public trust and confidence in policing. North Wales Police has an Ethics Committee which provides advice, support and assistance concerning ethical challenges arising from operational, administrative, or organisational matters faced by North Wales Police officers and staff.
The committee has an independent external chair with the membership split between North Wales Police employees and external members. It is vital that the committee represents all aspects of society in North Wales so applications are welcome from all to ensure we have as diverse a set of perspectives as possible.
To discharge its responsibilities members will:
* Consider ethical dilemmas submitted to the committee and make recommendations via an agreed process
* Promote the highest standards of professional and ethical conduct.
* Provide a focus for education into ethical issues.
* Be a source of support to other boards and all areas of the force on ethical issues and ethical assurance.
* Use the College of Policing "Code of Ethics" to assist in decision making.
* Provide ethical assurance check for NWP new and reviewed policies as required
The meeting will be held on a quarterly basis and members are expected to commit to regular attendance.
The Commitment
Members will need to:
* Attend four in person meetings a year. Meetings will alternate between online only and in-person/hybrid. Members must make every effort to attend 'in person' meetings but where it is not possible, they may join the meeting online. Attendance will be reviewed on an annual basis.
* Prepare for meetings by considering relevant papers, reports and background information in advance.
* Maintain the highest personal standards of professional conduct and ethics.
* Contribute actively to the meeting giving their views and perspective on ethical dilemmas and ethical issues presented to the committee.
* Respond promptly to any e-mails that request additional information/views/consultation.
Application Process
In around 500 words please provide an overview of your experience highlighting the following:
* Your understanding of ethical principles.
* Any relevant or related experience.
* Good communication skills with the ability to actively and critically contribute to discussion and debate.
* A genuine interest in Policing and Ethics.
Applications will be reviewed by the Head of Corporate Services, Chair of Ethics Committee and vice-chair of Ethics Committee, followed by an interview with the same for suitable applicants.

Members of the Ethics Committee work on a voluntary basis, however North Wales Police will refund appropriate expenses.
Please note this role is only open to external candidates, current employees of North Wales Police are not eligible to apply.
Level 1 Welsh is the minimum level required of volunteers which will be subject to an assessment.
