Space Application & Integration Developer (SQL + PHP)
Join our client’s highly specialised team in Rome, providing technical support and application development for the IT platforms enabling major European space programmes. The company is a long-standing partner of space institutions, delivering advanced solutions for IT systems, service management platforms and operational support.
We are looking for a Space Application & Integration Developer (SQL + PHP) with strong analytical and programming skills, ready to work in a hybrid environment that combines second/third-line application support, workflow configuration, new feature development and software debugging.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys development but is also motivated by problem-solving, platform logic and system integrations.
A B2 level of English is required (B1 may be considered only if all other criteria are strongly met). YOUR TASKS
In this role, you will work on an IT Service Management (ITSM) platform used in European space operations, ensuring effective configuration, development, and integration of software components. Your tasks will include:
Providing second/third-line support for the ITSM platform, analysing issues and delivering solutions.
Conducting root-cause analysis, reverse engineering of existing code, and implementing fixes or enhancements.
Developing new functionalities, scripts, and workflow logic using programming principles and platform-specific tools.
Working extensively with SQL (queries, stored procedures, triggers, native SQL logic). Strong SQL proficiency is mandatory.
Developing and maintaining components primarily in PHP, with possible exposure to Java, Python and JavaScript/HTML for UI-related features.
Configuring workflow blocks and logical flows within the ITSM system to support incident, request and problem processes (ITIL-driven).
Integrating the ITSM platform with external systems through REST API calls.
Executing debugging and technical troubleshooting for both front-end and back-end components.
Collaborating closely with internal technical experts and participating in technical review meetings.
Contributing to continuous improvement of processes, code quality and platform performance.
Supporting documentation, technical specifications and operational procedures. YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Solid experience with SQL (native functions, stored procedures, triggers, debugging). This is the most essential skill for the role.
Strong understanding of programming logic, with hands-on experience in at least one language such as PHP (preferable), Java, or Python; knowledge of multiple languages is a strong plus.
Experience with REST APIs and system-to-system integrations.
Familiarity with JavaScript/HTML for UI-related components.
Understanding of ITSM platforms (ServiceNow or similar) and ITIL concepts is a strong asset.
Experience with Linux and Windows environments; Linux exposure is particularly valuable.
2–3 years of experience in software development, application support, or similar roles (minimum level required to have meaningful exposure to SQL and at least one programming language).
Strong analytical, debugging and problem-solving abilities.
Curiosity, adaptability, and a mindset oriented toward continuous learning and improvement.
Ability to work effectively in a technical, multicultural and collaborative environment.
A portfolio or personal projects are considered a valuable bonus. EXTRA INFORMATION
