Robotic Welding Engineer - Genova
Contract Contract:
Full-time, Permanent
About Us Generative Bionics is a deep-tech company building humanoid robot platforms to deploy human-centered Physical AI. We design intelligent, capable machines that work alongside people in real-world environments — developed in Genova, Italy.
Role Description We are looking for a skilled and hands-on Robotic Welding Engineer to develop and validate welding capabilities on our humanoid robotic platform.
In a humanoid robot, welding is not just a manufacturing process, but a tightly coupled interaction between perception, motion, force control, and process physics.
In this role, you will design, integrate, and experimentally validate robotic welding systems, enabling the robot to execute consistent, high-quality welds in complex and dynamic environments.
You will collaborate closely with robotics, control, perception, and AI engineers, contributing your domain expertise to shape how welding is modeled, executed, and adapted on a humanoid robot.
Responsibilities
Design and integrate welding processes on a humanoid robotic platform, including torches, power sources, wire feeders, and tooling
Define and execute structured experiments to characterize weld quality, robustness, and repeatability across materials, joint types, and welding positions
Collaborate with motion planning and control teams to align robot trajectories, force/impedance control, and timing constraints with welding process requirements
Contribute to modeling welding processes and constraints for simulation, offline programming, and validation
Support integration and use of sensors (vision, force/torque, arc sensing, temperature) for seam tracking, monitoring, and adaptive welding strategies
Deploy welding procedures from test setups to the humanoid robot and iterate based on experimental and real-world results
Work cross-functionally with mechatronics, control, and AI teams to incorporate welding expertise into robotic behaviors and data-driven systems
Requirements
Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics, Materials Engineering, or equivalent
3+ years of experience with robotic welding systems, automated welding cells, or advanced manufacturing R&D environments
Strong hands-on knowledge of industrial welding processes, including parameter tuning and defect analysis
Experience working with industrial or collaborative robots, including setup, calibration, and deployment
Proven ability to design experiments, analyze results, and iterate on hardware and process parameters
Comfortable working in laboratory or shop-floor environments with real equipment and safety constraints
Experience with non-conventional robotic platforms (e.g., humanoids or mobile manipulators)
Basic to intermediate programming skills (Python, C++, or robot programming languages) for automation, data analysis, or integration
Knowledge of force control, impedance control, or adaptive welding techniques
Experience with vision-based seam tracking or automated weld inspection
Background in R&D, prototyping, or research-oriented manufacturing projects
What We Offer
The opportunity to contribute to the development of cutting-edge humanoid robotic systems
A stimulating and informal work environment alongside highly skilled technical and research teams
Employment contract under the Italian Metalworking Collective Labor Agreement (CCNL Metalmeccanico), commensurate with experience
Concrete opportunities for professional growth
