in the appointment of a
Lead Mechanical Engineer
for major, mission-critical projects based in
Italy (Milan)
.
This is a senior leadership role within the contractor's engineering function, responsible for providing full mechanical engineering oversight across large-scale, technically complex developments.
The position plays a critical role in leading engineering teams, supporting project delivery, and ensuring high-quality, compliant outcomes from design through to commissioning.
The Lead Mechanical Engineer will manage multi-disciplinary mechanical teams across
multiple campuses
, reporting into regional engineering leadership and acting as a key technical and people leader within the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
Provide overall leadership and technical direction for mechanical engineering delivery across large-scale projects from early design through construction and commissioning.
Lead, manage, and develop mechanical engineering teams (typically
3–5 engineers
), ensuring performance, capability development, and succession planning.
Coordinate all mechanical design, installation, testing, and commissioning activities in line with project requirements and programme milestones.
Ensure compliance with relevant codes, standards, specifications, and internal governance procedures.
Act as the senior mechanical point of contact for internal stakeholders, consultants, and subcontractors.
Review and approve mechanical designs, technical submissions, method statements, and commissioning plans.
Work closely with project management, commercial, construction, and procurement teams to ensure aligned delivery.
Identify and mitigate technical and delivery risks, implementing proactive solutions where required.
Support issue resolution on site, providing strong technical leadership and decision-making.
Drive continuous improvement across engineering processes, quality, and delivery efficiency.
Requirements
Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
Significant experience in
mechanical or building services engineering
within complex construction environments.
Proven experience leading mechanical engineering teams on large-scale projects.
Background in sectors such as
data centres, pharmaceuticals, energy, or critical infrastructure
is highly advantageous.
Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
Demonstrated ability to deliver projects to programme, budget, and quality standards.
