Data Scientist II, AWS Managed Operations Data Science (MODS)

Overview
The MODS Team seeks a Full‑Stack Data Scientist to lead research and thought leadership that drives AWS’s data and insight strategy. You will own the end‑to‑end data science lifecycle—data exploration, ETL, model development, and data visualization—using Spark, Airflow, Hugging Face, and other ML frameworks. Your work will inform AWS operations and Site Reliability Engineering teams, addressing ambiguous and complex problems at scale.
Key Responsibilities
- Work with large and complex data sets to solve a wide array of challenging problems using diverse analytical approaches.
- Develop and productionalize ML/AI models in partnership with software teams.
- Design and implement data pipelines and build supporting infrastructure.
- Define, develop, and monitor advanced, customized metrics and KPIs that capture organizational objectives and operational complexities.
Basic Qualifications
- 3+ years of data science experience.
- 3+ years of experience with data querying languages (SQL), scripting languages (Python), or statistical/mathematical software (R, SAS, Matlab, etc.).
- 3+ years of experience using machine learning/statistical modeling and data analysis tools and techniques.
- Knowledge of relevant statistical measures such as confidence intervals, significance testing, and evaluation datasets.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, mathematics, statistics, machine learning, or equivalent quantitative field; or Master’s degree with 4+ years of data science experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- 6+ years of data science experience.
- 4+ years of experience with machine learning, statistical modeling, data mining, and analytics techniques.
- Experience with data scripting languages (SQL, Python, R) or statistical/mathematical software (R, SAS, Matlab).
- Experience with clustered data processing (Hadoop, Spark, Map‑Reduce, Hive).
- Previous role as a machine learning or data scientist at a large technology company.
