Duties & Responsibilities
Location: Komani/Sterkstroom/Molteno
Key Responsibilities
1. Health & Safety Oversight
o Ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (1993), its regulations and other applicable legislation.
o Develop, implement, and monitor the site HSE Management System in alignment with ISO 45001.
o Conduct daily site safety inspections and ensure compliance with permit-to-work systems.
o Oversee induction, toolbox talks, and safety training of all contractors and visitors.
o Investigate incidents, near misses, and unsafe acts/conditions, ensuring corrective actions are implemented.
2. Contractors Safety Oversight
o Monitor and audit HSE performance of all subcontractors (OEM, BOP, services).
o Verify that contractors\' risk assessments, method statements, and work permits are suitable and sufficient.
o Ensure contractors adhere to the SPV\'s integrated site safety programme.
o Oversee security contractor on site
3. Environmental Management
o Manage the implementation and monitoring of the SPV\'s Environmental Management System and Environmental Management Plan
o Implement and maintain compliance with industry best practice and environmental permits/licences.
o Monitor waste management, hazardous substances, oil spill prevention, avian/bat monitoring, and biodiversity requirements.
o Liaise with regulators on environmental reporting and inspections
4. Reporting and Compliance
o Maintain accurate records of incidents, audits, inspections, and HSE performance indicators.
o Prepare monthly and quarterly HSE reports for the Asset Manager, Board, lenders, and the IPP Office.
o Support compliance audits and due diligence by lenders, regulators, and insurers etc
5. Emergency Preparedness & Response
o Develop, implement, and test emergency response plans (fire, medical, evacuation, environmental incidents).
o Coordinate drills with contractors, security, and local emergency services.
o Ensure adequate first aid, firefighting, and rescue equipment is in place and serviceable
Key Competencies & Skills
* Strong knowledge of South African OHS and environmental legislation.
* Ability to independently enforce compliance across multiple contractors.
* Analytical, auditing, and reporting skills.
* Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
* Proactive, assertive, and resilient under operational pressures.
* Computer literacy (MS Office, incident/HSE reporting systems).
Qualifications & Experience
* Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Management, or related field.
* SAMTRAC / NEBOSH certification (or equivalent recognized safety qualification).
* Minimum 5 years\' HSE experience in energy, utilities, or heavy industry.
* Prior experience managing HSEQ/ HSES/ HSE on renewable energy plants
Desired Experience & Qualification
Key Requirements
* Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Management, or related field
* SAMTRAC / NEBOSH (or equivalent recognised safety qualification)
* Minimum 5 years\' HSE experience in energy, utilities, or heavy industry
* Renewable energy plant experience advantageous
* Strong knowledge of South African OHS & environmental legislation
* Excellent auditing, reporting, and stakeholder engagement skills

Salary: R75,000 per month
