Orbital Outpost Italy (OO-IT) is an affiliate company of Space Robotics Workers, and it is part of the Space Infrastructures Ventures Group. Orbital Outpost Italy was founded under the vision that space exploration is about to take humankind on its next great leap into the reaches of our solar system. Starting in Low Earth Orbit and expanding outwards to Cis-Lunar and Mars operations and beyond in the coming decades will require a growth in in-space operations and we are dedicated to solving the problems in making those space-based operations possible via our engineering efforts. OO-IT is at the forefront of developing advanced water electrolyzers (ELZ) and Life Support Systems for space applications. Our innovative solutions provide pressurized hydrogen and oxygen gases for rocket fuel, fuel cells, and life support systems. We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Engineer to lead the development and optimization of our space-grade electrolyzers and Life Support System (ECLSS). As part of OO Italy’s team in Turin, you will be responsible for the design, development, procurement, and testing of Electrolysers, Environmental Control, Life Support, and Thermal Control components and systems for LEO space station modules. Key Responsibilities Lead the design, development, and testing of advanced electrolyzers for space applications. Ensure the integration of electrolysis technologies with other space systems. Knowledge and experience with spacecraft, habitat environmental control and life support systems, subsystems, assemblies, and/or components. Knowledge and experience in TCS (Thermal Control Systems), Crew Systems, High/Low Pressure Gas Systems, Atmosphere Revitalization Systems, Ventilation Systems, Pressure Control Systems, Regenerative Life Support, In-Situ Resource Utilization, Cabin Design Oversee project timelines, budgets, and resources to ensure successful project completion. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including mechanical, electrical, and aerospace engineers, to meet project objectives. Conduct research to improve the efficiency, reliability, and performance of electrolyzers and ECLSS Systems. Stay updated with the latest advancements in electrolyzer and ECLSS technologies and incorporate relevant innovations into product development. Develop the current baseline and re-iterate the product during the process. Qualifications Master’s or Ph.D. in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, or related field) with a focus on electrolyzers and ECLSS. Minimum of 3 years of experience in the development of electrolyzers, ECLSS, or related technologies. Knowledge of solid oxide cell technology, co-electrolysis and methanation technologies is an important asset. Proven experience in managing complex engineering projects from concept to deployment. Strong knowledge of electrochemical processes, materials science, and space-grade engineering requirements. Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure. Effective communication and leadership skills to manage teams and collaborate with partners. Knowledge and experience with spacecraft, habitat environmental control and life support systems, subsystems, assemblies, and/or components. Knowledge and experience in TCS (Thermal Control Systems), Crew Systems, High/Low Pressure Gas Systems, Atmosphere Revitalization Systems, Ventilation Systems, Pressure Control Systems, Regenerative Life Support, In-Situ Resource Utilization, Cabin Design Fluency in English.
