Lead Structural Design Engineer role at MoneyGram Haas F1 Team
Location: Maranello, Italy. Reports to the Deputy Chief Designer & Structure or their designee.
Overview
Responsible for structural design and analysis of F1 chassis related components, development and improvement of methodologies, and technical mentoring of junior group members.
Responsibilities
* Promote teamwork and effective communications to develop trustworthy relationships between all personnel and departments.
* Mentor, train and guide personnel as required. Develop staff using effective performance reviews and development plans.
* Other duties as assigned by the Deputy Chief Designer & Structure or their designee.
* Structural analysis and optimization of car components to guarantee solutions with minimum weight, adequate reliability and safety, while achieving the required stiffness targets.
* Development of methodologies and documentation, and support in improving the future technical capability of the structures group.
* Use methods including hand-calculations, Finite Element Analysis (linear and nonlinear), software structural optimization (topological, shape, composite laminate, etc.), automation, and analysis and correlation of experimental data through scripting and programming.
* Cover both Mechanical field (wheel groups, inboard suspensions, transmission, etc.) and Composite area (chassis, gearbox, wings, bodywork, suspensions, etc.).
* Development and improvement of analysis methods within the group.
* Mentoring and development of junior group members to improve their technical capability.
* Follow all safety regulations in all venues.
* Oversee ad hoc projects as assigned.
Education and Experience
* Master’s degree in Aeronautic, Automotive, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
* 10 years of work experience, with at least 7 years in a professional motorsport environment.
Specialized Knowledge and Skills
* Ability to supervise others, communicate effectively, and liaise with fellow workers to achieve desired results.
* Strong teamwork and positive work attitude; high standard in a demanding environment.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills; excellent English language proficiency.
* Strong technical background in racing cars.
* Ability to work under stress and meet deadlines with a scientific, analytical approach.
* Collaborative team player at all levels and a proactive, can-do attitude.
Equipment and Applications
* CAD System: Catia V5 (basic functions).
* HyperWorks/Optistruct.
* Abaqus CAE/Abaqus.
* Design Studio/Genesis.
* Matlab/Python.
Work Environment
An ability to work in a high-pressure, time-sensitive environment; travel may be required domestically and internationally; long and flexible hours including weekends.
Physical demands may include lifting up to 50 pounds, bending, squatting, and manual dexterity. The role involves working with machinery, race cars, rigs, grinding debris, and hazardous fluids. All employees must comply with the Company Health and Safety Policy and applicable legislation.
