Job Description: Disaster Recovery Manager
Responsible for Overseeing Business Impact Analysis, Disaster Recovery Planning, and Offsite Data Vaulting
Position Overview
The Disaster Recovery Manager plays a critical role in ensuring the organization's resilience by leading the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of disaster recovery (DR) strategies. This role is responsible for managing Business Impact Analysis (BIA) reviews, maintaining and updating DR plans, coordinating tests of recovery procedures, and overseeing offsite data vaulting. The Disaster Recovery Manager will measure current protection levels, identify gaps, and propose enhancements to strengthen the organization's ability to recover from disruptive events.
Key Responsibilities
Manage Business Impact Analysis (BIA) Reviews: Lead periodic BIA assessments to identify critical business processes, dependencies, and recovery requirements. Ensure BIA findings are accurately documented and communicated to stakeholders.
Maintain and Update Disaster Recovery Plans: Review, revise, and enhance DR plans to reflect organizational and technology changes, emerging risks, and lessons learned from tests or actual incidents. Ensure DR documentation is comprehensive, accurate, and accessible.
Implement Disaster Recovery Plan Changes: Oversee the implementation of updates and improvements to DR strategies and procedures. Coordinate with IT, business units, and external partners to ensure seamless execution of DR plan changes.
Coordinate Disaster Recovery Testing: Plan and conduct regular disaster recovery exercises, including tabletop, functional, and full‐scale simulations. Analyze test results, report on recovery performance, and drive remediation of identified issues.
Oversee Offsite Data Vaulting and Recovery: Manage the processes related to offsite data storage, ensuring data is securely backed up and recoverable in accordance with business requirements and compliance standards.
Measure Protection Levels and Identify Gaps: Assess current DR capabilities, measure protection levels against organizational objectives, and identify areas for improvement. Develop and present gap analysis reports to leadership.
Propose and Drive Improvements: Recommend actionable enhancements to DR and data vaulting processes, technologies, and policies. Collaborate with stakeholders to prioritize and implement improvements for greater resilience.
Training and Awareness: Provide training and guidance to staff on disaster recovery procedures and best practices. Foster a culture of preparedness throughout the organization.
Qualifications
Degree in Information Technology or a related field preferred.
Professional certification in disaster recovery or business continuity (e.g., CBCP, MBCI, DRII) is a plus.
Proven experience managing disaster recovery or business continuity programs.
Strong knowledge of BIA methodologies, DR planning, data backup technologies, and recovery testing.
Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
Ability to work collaboratively across multiple departments and with external partners.
Strong problem‐solving skills and attention to detail.
Fluent English speaking and writing is required
Reporting Structure
The Disaster Recovery Manager reports to the Director of IT Cybersecurity and works closely with IT, compliance, and business unit leaders.
This position may require participation in after‐hours testing or incident response activities and occasional travel to offsite facilities.
