Overview
Role: EHS Manager - Casaletto Vaprio & EHS Field Safety for Italy. Responsible for leading EHS at Casaletto Vaprio and EHS Field Safety for Italy, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and PPG EHS standards, and developing a strategy for site EHS infrastructure investments.
The role coordinates responsibilities across BUs within the country and partners with the EHS Country Manager. It requires travel within Italy (about 50% of working time, mainly in Northern Italy).
Key Responsibilities
1. 1. For Casaletto site
o Ensure EHS legal requirements for the location are communicated and addressed with the Local Leadership Team.
o Implement EHS strategy at the site by developing and aligning local plans with Leadership Team and Corporate/Regional guidelines; provide proactive feedback to the Country Manager for long-term sustainability.
o Participate as a member of the Local Leadership Team; support local needs in agreement with Location Manager and EHS Country Manager.
o Define and maintain core EHS resourcing for the location; request support from the EHS Country Manager as needed.
o Ensure EHS resources are assigned to core activities and to any agreed non-core activities as per SLAs.
o Collaborate with local Process Safety Managers/Coordinators to address process safety requirements.
o Identify needs, propose and obtain approval for the local EHS budget and manage it in alignment with Site Leadership Team and guidelines.
o Communicate timely any off-site activities and obtain approvals from Location Manager and EHS Country Manager.
2. 2. For Field Safety activities
o Implement EHS Field Safety strategy nationally; align local plans with Operational leadership and Corporate/Regional guidelines; provide feedback to Regional/Corporate to ensure long-term sustainability.
o Ensure risk assessments are performed by the business on time and support risk reduction initiatives.
o Drive Field Safety culture (Drive to Zero) for field employees and employees at customer sites or remote locations.
o Ensure incident reporting, deviation analysis, and timely corrective actions.
o Promote near-miss reporting culture and implement corrective actions for high-severity near misses.
o Manage the national EHS budget for Field Safety activities.
o Identify EHS training needs and ensure effective rollout in partnership with the business.
o Maintain regular communication and engagement with business leaders, building relationships with stakeholders and participating in leadership teams.
o Act as the EHS representative for regulatory obligations and customer requirements; support integration of acquired businesses; promote corporate initiatives (Wellness, Ergo Cup, etc.).
Impact / Scope of Responsibility
1. For Casaletto site
o Lead and implement EHS compliance for one or more sites; develop programs, systems and procedures to ensure EHS performance and regulatory compliance; conduct independent reviews of EHS policies and procedures.
o Recommend changes to policies and procedures; assess applicability to other sites/SBUs.
o Provide technical leadership and training in EHS processes and programs.
2. For Field Safety activities
o Implement policies to ensure awareness and compliance with EH&S requirements; provide technical guidance to operating unit personnel; ensure QA procedures monitor regulatory compliance.
o Coordinate audits of safety and health programs; influence employees and leadership; provide direction and training on EHS processes.
Complexity & Innovation
* Operate independently at sites with low to moderate complexity and risk; contribute to EHS strategy and its implementation.
* Analyze complex issues and implement process/strategy improvements to minimize EHS impact; develop solutions for moderately complex problems; exercise judgment amid ambiguity.
* Investigate incidents; prepare regulatory reports; maintain compliance with EH&S standards and regulations.
Communications & Autonomy
* Regularly engage with site employees and leadership; develop training and emergency preparedness programs; provide regulatory interpretations and technical advice.
* Work largely independently; determine objectives and plan activities to achieve them.
Education & Technical Knowledge
* Preferably bachelor’s or advanced degree in EHS, chemistry, engineering or related science with relevant experience; or an EHS qualification with at least 5 years of experience.
* In-depth knowledge of occupational health and safety and environmental regulations; stay updated on changes; knowledge of business metrics, drivers, and manufacturing processes as applicable.
Behaviours & Performance
* Meet scope and deadlines of initiatives; inform stakeholders of deviations affecting deliverables; participate in regional reviews; complete monthly updates (KPI, incident reporting, scorecards, etc.).
* Monitor financial performance and headcount related to EHS Field Safety; conduct regular safety observations; maintain local EHS scorecards; timely reporting of incidents and regulatory events with root-cause analysis.
* Review incidents in relevant systems; participate in country reviews; complete goals and performance reviews in Workday; submit expenses on time in Concur.
