Job Description:
Act as a key interface and liaison with reference Investigation Authority during Accidents & Serious Incidents investigations.
- Ensure coordination of LH resources during investigation activities to identify and analyze event root causes and, consequently, to guide and support the implementation of corrective actions. In details:
- He/She is usually part of the Investigation Go Team set-up and coordinated by Continued Airworthiness (CAW) Office, with the objective to provide the most effective technical support to the Authorities responsible for the field investigation. The most prominent activities for which the competent State Investigator in Charge/ANSV is usually requesting on-site support from CAW personnel and the Investigation Go Team are:
- Initial and detailed photographic evidence collection (for both the wreckage and the accident site & its surroundings)
- Collection of perishable samples (e.g. from fuel, hydraulic fluids, lubricants, papers and everything else that is likely to be damaged or contaminated during the following days/hours)
- General inventory of the wreckage to identify any missing component or any foreign part
- Switchology (i.e. the documentation of the status and positions of all the A/C controls and switches, as found in the wreckage)
- Identification and recovery of all the equipment containing Non Volatile Memories, if present
- Preliminary assessment of the status and failure mode of the most critical components
- Collection and preliminary evaluation of the A/C flight and maintenance manuals
- Collection and preliminary evaluation of the A/C maintenance records
For the whole duration of Field Investigation activities, the CAW Personnel and Investigation Go Team are required to interface with several representatives from the National Investigation Authorities, the Airworthiness Authorities, the Operator and likely the general public (possibly including representatives of the Press and Media). This scenario requires particular care in managing the information flow, as an uncontrolled disclosure of sensitive information to the public may damage the Leonardo’s reputation, compromise the ongoing investigation and undermine the relations with the competent State Investigator in Charge and ANSV.
- He/She, at the completion of the Field Investigation, prepares a Preliminary Report, which is shared with the competent investigation Agencies.
- Based on the results of the preliminary phases of the investigation and on the results of the preliminary data analysis, the Accident Investigator finalizes the applicable investigation plan.
- At the end of each investigation activity scheduled in the Investigation Plan, the Accident Investigator (with the concurrence of the Technical Area involved in the activities) collects the test results and/or the investigation activities findings in a clear and unambiguous way in a Company Restricted report(s).
- At the end of the investigation process, the Accident Investigator prepares a Final Investigation Report, which provides the analysis of all the relevant facts/findings and identifies the possible causes of the event including possible contributing factors.
- The Accident Investigator is responsible to archive all the reports and the data collected (including e-mails to Investigation and Regulatory Authorities) in a dedicated repository on the CAW server to ensure that all relevant evidences are clearly identified and the list of parties/individuals involved in the investigation is maintained.
- Share internally the Final Investigation Report in coordination with other geographies.
- Ensure knowledge of the state of the art in the field of Investigation participating, as appropriate, to their elaboration in the international regulatory activity.
- Provide direct support to LH and Leonardo Insurance and Legal departments.
Requirements:
- Master Degree in Aeronautical Engineering.
- At least 6 months/ one year of experience in Technical Area, Airworthiness, Product Support.
