NOTE: This is a trainee position, target UA-03. Position may be filled at the UA-05, UA-04 or UA-03 grade level. If position is filled at the UA-05 or UA-04 grade level, incumbent may be promoted non-competitively to the next higher grade level upon completion of necessary training and after he/she has met the necessary qualification requirements, quality of experience and upon recommendation of the supervisor.

Hauptaufgaben
Incumbent plans, establishes, and maintains a systematic preventive program for the control and extermination of insects, rodents and pests that endanger plants, subsistence supplies, and health throughout the Vicenza Military Community to ensure effective control of pests and vectors of disease affecting the health, morale and environment of all Garrison personnel. Performs periodic inspections to determine type of insecticide or larvicide to be applied in different areas. Controls rodents by preparing and setting up bait stations, applies appropriate and approved rodenticide depending on the locality. Establishes frequency of rebating. Uses approved products for weeds control on installations. Ensures bilingual notices are displayed whenever toxic materials are used and maintains an accurate inventory and Safety Data Sheets record of pesticides/dangerous materials used. Provides support to the Roads & Grounds trade by operating some weeding treatment along streets and walkways mixing the right quantity of product in accordance with Host Nation regulations. Reports to supervisor any pests and diseases affecting trees and bushes. Provides advice and assistance to supervisors and colleagues on the best methods of eradication of insects and for combating certain plant diseases. Uses specific technical programs (e.g. Auto-CAD) to establish and maintain a complete file with job-related maps (rats bait station position, fly traps position, trees maps of the installations). Maintains all records for the section, to include, in part, Time Distribution records, insect and rodent daily work records, insect and rodent control of buildings and activity cards, insect and rodent control records and preventive spray schedules. Maintains an inventory to account for receipt and use of all insecticides and rodenticide and a control summary report. Reviews landscaping projects evaluating the plants proposed and providing support and feedback to the supervisor. Maintains the trees database updated. Observes safety rules. Uses the prescribed protective clothing and equipment when necessary. Uses Government tools like driller, flex, chain saw, etc. and vehicles (lawnmower, grass trimmer etc.), taking care and keeping them in good conditions and operable. Serves as Contracting Officer's Representative (COR). Performs technical inspections to ensure adherence to contract specifications. Provides cost estimates and overall evaluations for the execution, inspection and administration of the contract under the direction of the Chief, Buildings & Grounds. Applies extensive knowledge of the individual contracts to interpret, apply and explain contract terms and conditions within the Italian Law requirements.
NOTE: Tour of duty is 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday from 08.00 to 17.00, including a 1-hour uncompensated lunch break.
Qualifikationsanforderungen
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must meet the qualification requirements in the "Qualification Standards" published by U.S. Office of Personnel Management, as summarized below.
EXPERIENCE:
At the UA-05 grade level, applicants must have a minimum of 1 year of Specialized Experience equivalent to at least the UA-06 grade level.
At the UA-04 grade level, applicants must have a minimum of 1 year of Specialized Experience equivalent to at least the UA-05 grade level.
At the UA-03 grade level, applicants must have a minimum of 1 year of Specialized Experience equivalent to at least the UA-04 grade level.
Specialized Experience is experience that involved identifying, preventing, or eliminating health hazards in one or more areas of environmental sanitation. Such experience must have provided a practical knowledge of environmental health hazards, survey techniques, and control and eradication methods, and may have been gained in work such as biological technician, medical technician, pest control technician, quality control positions with dairy or food service industries, or environmental health worker.

SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE:
At the UA-05 grade level: Diploma di Laurea Triennale/Diploma Universitario or 3 years of university exams ("Vecchio ordinamento").
At the UA-04 grade level: Diploma di Laurea triennale plus 30 CFU towards a Diploma di Laurea Magistrale/Specialistica.
At the UA-03 grade level: Diploma di Laurea triennale plus 60 CFU towards a Diploma di Laurea Magistrale/Specialistica or Diploma di Master universitario di primo livello.
At all grade levels education must be related to the occupation.

Applicants are required to possess:
- A Diploma of "Perito Agrario" or a diploma in technical fields;
- A valid Italian driver's license type "B";
- At the UA-04 and UA-03 grade levels, a "Patentino Fitosanitario".

Beschäftigungsbedingungen
Incumbent must be able to:
- Obtain and maintain the military driver's license equivalent to Italian driver's license type "B";
- Obtain and maintain the American Certification necessary for the use of pesticides in U.S. installations;
- Obtain a "Patentino Fitosanitario" within 12 months and maintain it.
Temporary duty travel may be required to support other installations or attend training. On-Call Duty status may also be required.
