Key Responsibilities As a Strategy Designer within Client Engineering, you’ll be a key player in a multi‑disciplinary team made up of Architects, AI Engineers, and Platform Engineers, to deliver a unique client co‑creation experience that uses IBM technology to accelerate and prove value for our clients.
Translate findings into measurable business outcomes for our clients and collaborate with sellers and account teams to articulate this throughout the engagement. Improve how we engage with clients across their end‑to‑end journey with us. Lead collaboration with cross‑functional teams and stakeholders to move from ambiguity to clarity. Shape the direction of engagements by applying Enterprise Design Thinking (EDT) to both the user and our clients (human‑centered approach). Design and deliver engaging and productive collaboration sessions to align teams. Deep immersion in the client’s business, identifying strategic opportunities and solving problems that matter to them. Undertake user research and user testing to uncover what clients and users really need. Synthesize research and insights and collaborate to connect them to business and technology strategy. Use UX/UI design craft to make the intangible tangible, allowing stakeholders to literally see the value and the path forward (e.g., user journey maps, service blueprints, roadmaps, future vision prototypes, UI designs for engineering, inspirational videos, data visualization). Use storytelling to transform complex technologies and deep user insights into clear, intuitive value propositions. Use visual tools like canvases, sketches, visuals and videos to guide conversations. Drive collaborative design whether for client pilots, in hackathons, or even internally. Cultivate strong relationships across multidisciplinary teams, across CE, Technology, Sales, IBM, partners, and our clients. Design for AI—shape experiences that make advanced AI capabilities intuitive, trustworthy, and aligned with user needs. Use design acceleration with AI without compromising quality, craft, or ethics.
Required Technical And Professional Expertise
Design portfolio demonstrating a strong, proven understanding of user‑centered design principles and practices, including framing and defining problems, user understanding, insight synthesis, ideation, communication of user‑centered outputs, driving clear outcomes, and representing real client impact. Technical knowledge: ability to understand technical problems. Team collaboration: demonstrates teamwork and can navigate different communication styles. Excellent communication skills: verbal, written and interpersonal skills that are engaging, compelling and influential. Self‑starter: growth mindset, motivated to work with clients and able to lead projects independently. Design Thinking/Design Sprint certification or comparable expertise.
