Workplace Description
The position is available in the
ALEPH research unit
of the Cyber Security Centre pursues research in the field of applied cryptography, from algorithms and protocols through implementation to real-world applications. Its activities include assessing the suitability of novel cryptographic schemes for practical purposes in digital identity and access control, and research into new protocols building on these schemes. Our scenarios of interest range from electronic identity documents and digital credential wallets, to cloud services, cryptographic access control, as well as post-quantum cryptography. Job Description
The ALEPH research unit is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to join its team in applied cryptography for the design and development of secure innovative solutions based on post-quantum cryptography in cloud services.
The successful candidate is expected to contribute to new and ongoing research, including:
* Assessment and development of post-quantum cryptographic algorithms and protocols for privacy-preserving federated learning, AI, identity management, and access control;
* Assistance in development of software for applied cryptography in cloud services, e.g., libraries, automated tools for compliance and security testing and deployment, cryptographic discovery and inventory;
* Coordination, supervision, and implementation of project activities, ensuring efficient and timely delivery in alignment with project objectives;
* Communication and dissemination activities, potentially including knowledge transfer to industrial partners, organisation of workshops and seminars, or writing guidelines or best practices documentation;
* Support in the planning, preparation and coordination of project activities, and in the identification of strategic needs and directions to strengthen their alignment with the scientific priorities of the Cybersecurity Centre
The selected candidate may also be involved in additional activities or projects within the Centre, depending on organizational needs.
Job requirements
The ideal candidate should have:
* PhD in Mathematics, or Computer Science with strong cryptographic background, or closely related areas.
* Most importantly, a solid background and publications in code-based (preferably) or lattice-based post-quantum cryptography: mathematical foundations; hardness assumptions and parameter choice for a target security level; cryptanalysis; and applications to cloud service scenarios and protocols - especially digital identity, access control, or e-voting.
* Additionally, software development experience in applied cryptography, ideally with the following languages: Python, rust, go, or C/C++.
* Language assessment according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR): level of knowledge required. Knowledge of English will be verified during the interview on a technical or scientific topic and must be equal to or exceed level C1. Definitions of levels can be found at the following link ;
* working experience in international and collaborative research projects, with partners from academia, the public and the private sector;
* teamwork approach, good communication and relational skills.
