Thanks to our diversity of skills, talents and cultures, our customers (governments, institutions, space agencies, telecommunications operators), therefore have Space to Connect, Secure Defend, Observe Protect, Explore, Travel Navigate. /p h3Fracture Control Engineer /h3 pWe are looking for a Fracture Control Engineer. Thales Alenia Space Fracture Control Engineers define the project solutions, as concerns the structure, for the manned pressurized structures and unmanned (including re-entry vehicles) aerospace missions. These solutions must guarantee that the component is able to withstand the launch and mission loads, and the possible re-entry and impact loads, as well. /p pFor manned missions and for reusable spacecraft structural integrity and life verification is performed. This activity allows to reduce the risk of failure due to crack initiation and propagation due to cyclic load experienced during the mission life. /p pThe activity scenario is extremely broad and varied, it includes primary and secondary structures, pressure vessels, pressurized structures, composite and non-metallic material, glass and ceramic. /p h3Key duties /h3 ul liPreparation of a Fracture Control Plan at the beginning of the program. /li liIdentification of Fracture Critical Items during all the design phase. /li liDefinition of the verification approach (safe life, fail safe, low risk). /li liDefinition of loads exceedance for fatigue load spectrum preparation. /li liDetailed fatigue and fracture mechanics analysis. /li liDefinition of material characterization test (fracture toughness, crack growth and stress corrosion). /li liDefinition of NDI to be performed on the components (dye penetrant, ultrasonic and eddy current). /li liDefinition of defect acceptability for welds and composite material. /li liSupport to the Fracture Control board for any discussion or alternative approach selected. /li /ul pThe activity allows to acquire and to increase competencies in the execution of fatigue and fracture mechanics analysis, and in the support of structural tests, NDI solution and management of Waiver and NCR. /p h3Knowledge and qualifications /h3 pKnowledge of ESA and NASA standard for human spaceflight is considered essential. /p h3Skills, Experience and Qualifications /h3 ul liAt least 5 years of experience in Structural or Mechanical Engineering in aerospace or related field. /li liFull comprehensive capability of Windows Office package. /li liKnowledge of damage tolerance standard in aerospace (NASA, ESA and other agencies). /li liDeep knowledge of Space Station System standards for Human flight missions. /li liMaterial and process metallic and non-metallic technologies extensive knowledge. /li liMechanical Engineering Knowledge and Expertise. /li liBasic knowledge of CAD and CAM processes and capabilities. /li liManufacturing drawing readings and knowledge. /li liCapability of using NASGRO/ESACRACK codes. /li liCapability of using Nastran/Patran, ANSYS, Hyper Mesh, Femap. /li liGood attitude towards analysis, synthesis and problem solving. /li liExcellent knowledge of English language (spoken and written). /li liItalian language knowledge will be considered additional asset. /li liAvailable to work in shifts if requested by the program. /li liGood attitude towards teaming and multi-disciplinary approaches. /li liGood attitude towards negotiations with Space Agencies and Subcontractors. /li liAvailable to support frequent travels and colocations abroad. /li /ul h3Level of Instruction /h3 ul liMaster Degree in Aerospace, Aeronautical or Mechanical Engineering. /li liMaster or specific courses in Mechanical Design. /li /ul h3Why Thales Alenia Space? /h3 pAt Thales Alenia Space we provide careers and not only jobs.
