Job Summary
The Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation & Reentry (ADCRR) is seeking an experienced Occupational Safety Consultant to lead occupational safety, fire prevention, and environmental health programs across at our Eyman complex. In this vital role, you’ll conduct safety inspections, investigate incidents, and ensure compliance with OSHA, NFPA, and EPA standards. You’ll also provide hands-on training to strengthen our culture of safety and operational excellence.

Responsibilities
* Conduct scheduled inspections and safety tours in all staff, inmate, and visitor areas for safety and/or fire-related concerns/issues
* Conducts and participates in training and Safety Committee meetings as needed or required
* Provide oversight of Safety Data Sheet (SDS) management
* Conduct inspections as indicated, oversee site structure in reports, and work with sites on corrective actions for code/standards compliance
* Conduct follow-up inspections and report on corrective actions
* Assist sites with compliance schedules
* Inspect and ensure fire alarm devices and fire suppression equipment are maintained, recording last inspections, tests, repairs, replacements, or current deficiencies
* Investigate accidents/injuries involving staff, inmates, and visitors; prepare reports with recommendations for corrective actions and citations (Fire Marshal, Local jurisdiction, OSHA, EPA, etc.)
Environmental & Compliance
* Oversee and coordinate institutional environmental compliance within the ADCRR Environmental Management System (EMS)
* Identify environmental issues and ensure timely submission of required environmental submittals
* Coordinate with the Safety and Loss Prevention Administrator to address regulatory issues
* Maintain OSHA 501 General Industry certification and deliver related training using OSHA General Industry 10, 30, and 40-hour programs
* Utilize site-specific toolbox talks for safety training
* Maintain NFPA 10 certification for fire extinguisher maintenance training and monitoring
* Conduct respirator fit testing following medical clearances
* Attend Safety Committee meetings as a non-voting member and support the committee’s investigative work with the Occupational Health Unit
* Travel on state business as required
* Perform other duties appropriate to the assignment

* Occupational health, fire and life safety, and environmental standards and procedures
* Safety devices and PPE
* Wamiliar with state and federal laws and guidelines (OSHA, EPA, NFPA, ADOSH, ADEQ, ADHS, etc.)
* Safety consultation methods and root cause analysis
* Technical report writing and recommendations
* Loss prevention and risk management practices
* Safety programming including trenching, lockout/tag-out, electrical, plumbing, machine guarding, and job safety/hazard analysis
* Chemical handling under applicable regulations
Skills
* Analyzing, evaluating, and interpreting technical data

* Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Suite
Ability To
* Detect hazards and recommend remedial action
* Calibrate and maintain safety equipment and interpret data

Selective Preferences
* Experience supervising inmates in trade-level jobs
* NFPA 101 building and/or fire inspector qualifications; 1 year experience as an AZ Occupational Safety Consultant or equivalent
* Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety and Health or five years of related experience
* Combination of safety training credits and five years of safety experience may substitute
Pre-Employment Requirements
Must be OSHA 501 General Industry Train-the-Trainer certified within 12 months of hire. Must obtain FEMA certification within 6 months. Must obtain NFPA 1030 certification within 12 months. Employment contingent on background check, drug test, and medical/physical exam. If driving is required, valid driver’s license and related checks apply. TB test required annually. All new state employees must complete E-Verify.
