Overview
A leading High Tech Company is seeking a Mechanical Systems Engineer with strong experience across hydraulic systems, landing gear, braking systems, and mechanical flight controls. This position replaces an existing headcount and will join the aircraft systems engineering team, supporting both development and in-service engineering across major civil and military aviation programmes.
This position sits within the Aircraft Systems Engineering team and focuses specifically on “Cold Mechanics” systems, including:
* Hydraulic systems
* Landing gear & braking systems
* Mechanical flight control systems
* Actuation mechanisms
The role covers the full systems engineering lifecycle, including requirements definition, system integration, testing, certification support, and supplier technical management.
You will work closely with aircraft systems, avionics, and airworthiness teams while supporting both development and in-service engineering activities.
Key Responsibilities
* Aircraft Systems Engineering
* Define and manage technical requirements and modification dossiers (DMT)
* Perform system analysis, trade studies, and technical assessments
* Produce test procedures (TRS), test reports (RPT/TNT), and compliance documentation
* Support aircraft system integration, installation and equipment layout
* Work with avionics teams on interface definition and integration
Supplier Technical Management
* Act as the technical interface between internal engineering teams and system suppliers
* Lead or participate in supplier design reviews and technical meetings
* Produce engineering coordination documentation (MoM, ECM, technical reports)
* Track technical progress, schedules and action items
Verification, Testing & Certification
* Support system verification and validation activities
* Assist with test planning, execution supervision and results analysis
* Produce documentation required for civil and military certification compliance
* Work alongside airworthiness teams during certification activities
In-Service Engineering Support
* Provide technical investigation and troubleshooting support for operational aircraft
* Support airworthiness and customer support teams during system investigations
Required Experience
* 5+ years experience in aerospace systems engineering
* Strong knowledge of aircraft hydraulic systems, landing gear, braking systems or flight control actuation systems
* Experience working within ARP4754A systems engineering frameworks
* Understanding of aircraft verification, validation and certification processes (CS-23 / FAR-23)
* Experience producing engineering documentation, test procedures and compliance reports
Technical Skills
* Hydraulic and mechanical aircraft systems design / integration
* Systems engineering methodologies
* Aircraft system testing and validation
* Technical documentation and certification support
* Modelling and simulation experience (MATLAB / Simulink desirable)
Qualifications
* Degree in Aerospace Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
* Experience within aircraft development programmes or system integration environments
Working Pattern
* 90% onsite in Northern Italy
* 10% travel to supplier facilities
* Participation in weekly engineering progress reviews
