About the Role
This is a deal-closing role. You will be the commercial engine of the procurement function, the person who finds the money, builds the case, runs the negotiation, and delivers the savings. You won’t wait to be asked. You will dig into the spend data, identify where the company is overpaying, and go after it, vendor by vendor, contract by contract, category by category.
You will play a central role in delivering value to the business beyond cost savings securing the right terms, quality, service levels, and lead times. You are responsible for driving resilience in the supply base, ensuring reliable and sustainable supply, and managing commercial risk across the group.
As a highly autonomous self-starter, you will proactively identify areas for spend reduction at both vendor and category level. You will not wait for stakeholders to come to you. You will go to them with data, a point of view, and a plan. You will support the Chief Legal Officer in creating and implementing procurement strategies globally, ensuring alignment between procurement initiatives and business priorities through robust communication, confidently influencing and challenging senior stakeholders, and leveraging data-driven insights and proactive supplier and market analysis.
The Role and Your ImpactCommercial Negotiations & Savings Delivery (Primary Focus)
* Lead all commercial negotiations for material procurement, owning the deal from strategy through to signed contract.
* Partner with business stakeholders and the legal team to drive the best commercial outcome for the company.
* Proactively identify and pursue savings opportunities by analysing spend data, spotting overpriced contracts, and benchmarking against the market.
* Build and execute negotiation strategies for every material deal, including clear objectives, BATNA, walk-away positions, and commercial levers.
* Push back on stakeholders who accept the status quo and challenge untested contracts or unvalidated supplier loyalty.
* Prepare and present deal reviews to senior decision-makers with clear verdicts, highlighting financial impact, risks, and trade-offs.
* Own the savings pipeline end-to-end, reporting monthly on savings delivered versus target and escalating slippage.
* Deliver hard, measurable, cashable savings that hit the P&L, rather than theoretical cost avoidance.
* Create competitive tension in every sourcing event to maximize company leverage, even with strong incumbents.
Procurement Strategy & Execution
* Create and execute short and long-term procurement strategies for indirect categories and top vendor spend.
* Focus on overall business goals and deliver value through activities aligned with company strategies and policies.
* Prioritise ruthlessly, focusing time on the biggest spend, the worst contracts, and the highest-impact opportunities first.
* Leverage tooling and technology to automate administration and ensure more time is spent negotiating.
AI, Automation & Procurement Tooling
* Leverage AI and automation to streamline procurement processes, spend analysis, contract lifecycle management, and benchmarking.
* Automate the delivery of reports and KPIs (savings vs. budget, risk & compliance, renewals) for timely and actionable data insights.
* Identify, evaluate, and implement new procurement technology and digital tools to drive efficiency and competitive advantage.
* Build in-house AI solutions creatively where commercial tools are too expensive or too slow.
Spend Categorisation & Analysis
* Identify and categorise indirect spend to know where every euro goes by vendor, category, entity, and country.
* Analyse data using ERP, contract management, and reporting tools to identify trends, opportunities, and compliance gaps.
* Provide regular reporting on savings versus budget, alongside data for procurement and budget review meetings.
* Interpret the numbers to flag anomalies, challenge cost increases, and turn data into negotiation ammunition.
Supplier Relationship Management (SRM)
* Onboard suppliers ensuring compliance with standards and establishing operational procedures.
* Establish long-term partnerships with strategic suppliers without letting relationships prevent hard negotiations.
* Manage supplier risk and optimise the value chain.
* Manage contract renewals and terminations proactively, ensuring no contract auto-renews without a commercial review.
* Benchmark suppliers continuously to ensure contracts move in line with the market.
Internal Communication & Stakeholder Challenge
* Establish robust communication structures to confidently engage, debate priorities, and challenge requirements with senior stakeholders.
* Work closely with Finance, Legal, Business, and functional owners on priorities, budget, and compliance.
* Push stakeholders to engage early so procurement adds value before decisions are made.
* Challenge the “we’ve always done it this way” mentality with market data, alternatives, and commercial logic.
* Act as a diplomatically assertive commercial partner mandated to protect the company’s interests, not just a service desk.
Skills and Qualifications
* Experienced negotiator with a proven track record of securing best-in-class terms and personally closing deals.
* 5+ years of experience in strategic procurement, sourcing, or commercial negotiation with demonstrable savings delivered (minimum €500K+ annually).
* A self-starter who identifies opportunities, builds plans, and executes with minimal management direction.
* At least 2 years of experience in a fast-paced environment (start-up/scale-up), comfortable with ambiguity and building processes from scratch.
* Proven ability to deliver savings without compromising on service delivery or quality.
* Experience building or deploying AI solutions in-house to create efficiencies within procurement.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including advanced Excel/Google Sheets (pivot tables, graphs, data modelling).
* Familiarity with ERP systems, P2P tools, and contract management platforms.
* Excellent communicator able to build strong internal networks, influence leadership, and push back using data.
* Comfortable challenging senior stakeholders and suppliers alike with evidence-backed positions.
* Master’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, or a related field.
* Fluent in English (spoken and written).
