The position is permanent, remote, and based in Italy. What you will be doing We are seeking a Senior Business Development Manager to operate within Italy and our European growth markets. You will lead energy storage sales for cross-functional teams, ensuring predictable, profitable sales and project execution. You will report to the Area Sales Director. Your responsibilities include: Leading energy storage sales from initial bid to contract execution Vetting customers and opportunities for resource efficiency Managing key account relationships Setting pricing strategies and estimating costs accurately Leading stakeholders and sales teams to meet business goals Using S&OP data for cost and schedule assessments Understanding tender requirements and preparing high-quality offers Evaluating and mitigating risks Conducting internal reviews and obtaining approvals Following Wärtsilä contracting policies and achieving proper contract terms Leading contract negotiations and developing sales strategies Reporting project sales progress in CRM (Salesforce) Ensuring smooth transfer of sales to the project team Qualifications for success: At least 5 years of experience in utility-scale renewable energy, preferably with battery energy storage Strong safety promotion Proven leadership in high-performing sales teams SOLUTION-oriented mindset Experience negotiating complex sales projects Contractual and risk management skills Excellent influencing and communication skills Ability to lead by example and foster collaboration Broad understanding of energy storage solutions and market outlook Commercial acumen and customer focus Excellent team player and coach Results-driven with planning and change management skills Ability to inspire action towards goals Appreciation for diversity, psychological safety, and inclusion Willingness to travel Success metrics: Successful, profitable project sales Engagement of sales team, stakeholder collaboration, customer satisfaction Some travel (about 20%) is required to meet customers globally, most meetings are virtual.
