Job Description Title: Manager, Tax (Construction Practice) | Reports to: Tax Practice Leader, Construction
Office Location: Ft. Myers or Naples, Florida | Pay: $95,000-$125,000 per year + Bonuses

Position: The Construction Tax Manager will manage the tax compliance, planning, and review for construction and construction-related clients. This role focuses on construction-specific tax issues, including long-term contract accounting methods and book-to-tax conversions, and bridges financial reporting with tax treatment. The Construction Tax Manager will also manage client relationships and supervise team members within the practice.
Responsibilities
* Tax Compliance: Prepare and review federal and state tax returns for construction entities. Ensure all tax filings are accurate and submitted timely. Manage the preparation of amended tax returns as necessary.
* Tax Planning and Advisory: Apply appropriate tax methods for long-term contracts (including percentage-of-completion, completed contract, and AMT concerns per IRS Section 460). Perform book-to-tax conversions for key items (revenue recognition, depreciation, contract costs, accrued liabilities) to align financial statements with tax returns. Reconcile tax reporting with general ledger and financial statement data, including tax adjustments and deferred tax entries.
* Client Management: Develop and maintain strong client relationships, provide exceptional service, and address tax-related needs as manager and advisor. Communicate complex tax concepts clearly to clients and stakeholders.
* Research and Analysis: Stay current with tax law changes affecting the construction industry. Conduct research on complex tax issues and provide recommendations for planning strategies. Analyze financial data and prepare reports to support tax positions and planning.
* Team Leadership: Supervise and mentor tax staff; review work for accuracy and completeness. Collaborate with attorneys and financial advisors to provide comprehensive tax and advisory services.

Qualifications
* 5-10+ years of progressive tax experience with 3-5+ years in construction tax.
* In-depth understanding of IRS Section 460 and long-term contract methods.
* Strong knowledge of book-to-tax reconciliation, including Schedule M adjustments.
* Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. Master’s degree in Taxation or MBA is beneficial. CPA certification required.
* Strong knowledge of federal and state tax laws related to construction (Florida-specific knowledge advantageous).
* Proficiency in tax preparation software (CCH Axcess, Thomson Reuters or similar) and MS Office suite.
Schedule
* Normal office hours: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM.
* Manager-level position; typical weekly hours 40-50, with potential extra hours during peak tax season.
* Hybrid remote work opportunities may be available after 6 months.
* Possible local travel and limited travel to regional conferences.
* Position based in Fort Myers, FL or Naples, FL; remote opportunities are not available.
