About Hitachi Rail — Firenze, Italy (Hybrid).
The General Project Manager is the overall responsible for the Project and the Project results. He/She manages a project relevant to a Communication and Control Systems of a Metro, assuring the achievement of all objectives (technical, operational, economical, financial, and businesswise) within the defined schedule and budget and with expected level of quality and safety. He/She leads and manages the execution and implementation of the projects vis-à-vis customers and in coordination with each discipline PM and the Company Functions. He/She is responsible for the satisfactory completion of the contract with regard to quality, HSE, timescale, cost, resources and employer satisfaction to ensure successful project implementation and achievement of project objectives.
Key Responsibilities
* Responsible for correctly managing the project, ensuring predefined results on time, within budget, and with expected level of quality.
* Ensure full compliance with safety requirements and full implementation of the Safety Plan throughout the project in close cooperation with the Safety Manager.
* Define and develop the customer relationship strategy: understand the client environment, determine client interfaces and identify client responsibilities.
* Identify all project stakeholders, understand their environment and influences/expectations, and define a plan to manage each of them in the project interest (wherever possible, win-win).
* Plan and coordinate, interfacing with team members and company functions, activities and resources of the project to fulfill objectives (milestones, contract).
* Manage the contractual terms of the project.
* Organize and plan the project with appropriate management tools (e.g., Primavera).
* Supervise and control the production/product integration of project-related systems, including the entire supply chain, interfacing with suppliers and engineering.
* Monitor progress of project activities against the planned timetable.
* Monthly monitor project profit and identify/implement action plans to maximize profit.
* Supervise and coordinate, through assigned PMs, the validation and verification of the system both in the factory and on-site, to obtain customer validation and commissioning of the plant.
* Supervise, coordinate, and support the System Engineer and Customer Service during commissioning, maintenance and warranty. Supported by the Project Design Authority who reports at project level to GPM.
* Support the preparation and validation of the project Statement of Work (baseline): confirm scope, contractual issues and validate risk assumptions.
* Establish project structure including project management organization and project team organization.
* Set up the project team and assign project roles and responsibilities to individuals.
* Managing assigned PMs who lead and manage part of the projects assigned to the GPM.
* Establish internal targets in line with contract requirements and expectations.
* Establish and implement the Project Management Plan (PMP).
* Approve general organization procedures (including the PQP) and all contractual procedures to be reviewed and approved by the Employer.
* Approve processes and general procedures (including progress measurement and performance measurements procedures).
* Manage project risks including contingency plans and risk mitigation.
* Define project key progress and performance indicators (schedule, budget, quality).
* Manage with the Employer all activities related to variation to contractual scope of work.
* Represent the company and the project in front of the customer, assuring solutions purchased and required results.
* Focus on anticipation, especially in risk and opportunity management.
* Close-out the project.
Skills, Experience and Qualifications
* University degree in Engineering (Electronic, Telecommunication or Informatics) or equivalent knowledge acquired through professional experience.
* Experience of at least 10 years as PM or GPM.
* Experience of at least 5 years in projects relevant to Communication and Control systems.
* Strong technical background in communications systems, control systems, security systems, and passenger information comfort systems used in Metro or Railways environments.
* Proficiency in Italian language; proficiency in English for daily work in international contexts.
* Knowledge of Arabic is a plus.
* Willingness to be located abroad for a medium/long-term period (> 3 years) and to undertake worldwide business missions.
* Experience working in two or more countries for at least three years.
* Strong ability to manage teams and resources beyond direct reporting lines.
* Strong organizational and coordination skills for multiple, remotely located teams.
* Autonomy, entrepreneurial attitude, and proactive behaviors.
* Business-oriented with the ability to understand and manage business implications behind the project.
* High seniority and extensive experience managing highly complex projects in multicultural, international environments with multidisciplinary technical aspects.
