Materials Buyer Senior – Catania
Responsible for procurement of proprietary and critical equipment/materials for large-scale EPC projects, ensuring compliance with project requirements, company procedures, budget targets and schedules.
Mission
The role supports all procurement activities, supplier management, commercial evaluation, negotiation and purchase order issuance in a highly structured international EPC environment.
Main Activities & Responsibilities
- Ensure suppliers are properly qualified within the Group systems; coordinate qualification activities with the Inspection and Qualification department if needed.
- Prepare bidder lists according to project and product requirements.
- Issue RFQs for proprietary and critical equipment/materials, leveraging e‑Procurement systems.
- Receive and track suppliers’ offers, maintaining proper archives within Group systems.
- Collaborate with technical departments to evaluate offers technically.
- Prepare and issue commercial evaluations to the Materials Buyer Manager for strategic assessment.
- Support Project Teams by identifying budget variances and proposing mitigation actions.
- Provide cost input for cost models to support budgeting and benchmarking.
- Maintain operational relationships with suppliers and communicate effectively throughout procurement activities.
- Conduct commercial negotiations with suppliers in alignment with the MB Manager.
- Assist in customizing back‑to‑back contracts per project, product and supplier requirements.
- Issue purchase orders in SAP once project numbers are available.
- Issue purchase orders autonomously for products covered by framework agreements and approved price lists.
- Collect and maintain supplier data including revenue, intake, delivery performance and quality KPIs.
- Interface with internal functions such as Business Development, Engineering, Legal and Project Control.
- Assist in drafting award recommendations when required.
- Support handover of awarded contracts to post‑order functions.
- Report regularly on procurement and buying activities.
- Ensure compliance with internal procedures, methodologies and procurement protocols.
- Cooperate with the Project Procurement Manager during project execution on commercial issues with vendors (claims, change orders, liquidated damages, contractual matters).
- Contribute to continuous improvement of procurement processes, supplier management and internal coordination workflows.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- 7–10 years of purchasing experience.
- Experience operating in international and challenging environments.
- Experience with end‑to‑end tender management and RFx processes; knowledge of e‑Procurement systems is a plus.
- Experience in supplier negotiation on commercial and contractual terms and conditions.
- Experience preparing contracts and managing commercial documentation.
- Proficiency in SAP for procurement and supplies management.
- Ability to interface with internal stakeholders and cross‑functional teams.
- Capability to manage multiple priorities within complex project environments.
- Strong problem‑solving and conflict‑management skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Team player who builds and maintains internal and external relationships.
- Good computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office and SAP.
- Availability to travel in Italy and abroad for short periods.
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree in Civil Engineering.
- Technical diploma (e.g., Surveyor/Geometra) with prior experience in medium‑large EPC or international construction companies.
- Experience procuring construction materials for civil projects, including indoor, outdoor and site‑related materials.
- Experience procuring steel structures, metal carpentry, building materials or related construction materials.
- Experience in EPC, construction, engineering or industrial environments.
- Design experience in engineering departments.
