We are hiring a Software Engineer - L3 Support to work in a dynamic engineering role focused on Linux-based infrastructure and applications, covering layers from bare metal to open source applications like Kubernetes, OpenStack, Ceph, and more. This role challenges your engineering skills across the stack and offers an opportunity to build a career with Canonical, supporting our customers, community, and company.
If you are passionate about Linux and open source, possess good communication skills, and enjoy troubleshooting, this role is ideal. You will address critical issues in the open source stack, work upstream for bug fixes, and contribute to Ubuntu and its community.
Location: This is a remote role with teams worldwide.
Responsibilities include:
Resolve complex issues related to Ubuntu, Kernel, Ceph, OpenStack, Kubernetes, and other open source software.
Collaborate with Canonical's Field, Support, and Product Engineering teams.
Participate in upstream communities and develop bug fixes.
Review code, demonstrate good judgment, prioritize tasks, and communicate clearly.
Work remotely and travel up to 10% for team events and conferences.
Qualifications:
Strong academic background in Computer Science or STEM.
Experience with Linux and open source software.
Proficiency in Python, Go, C, or C++ on Linux.
Willingness to learn new technologies and troubleshoot complex issues.
Willingness to travel up to 4 times a year.
Nice-to-have skills:
Interest in Linux kernel, Kubernetes, OpenStack, Ceph, QEMU/KVM, LXC/LXD, databases, Debian packaging, distributed systems.
Curiosity, flexibility, good communication, and self-motivation.
